Game crashing

Hi there,
For the past two or so patches my game client has been randomly crashing directly to desktop (there's no bug report). When I try setting up shop in Arch the game crashes after a couple hours. And no set time during regular gameplay. I sent in a ticket earlier last month, I tried disabling the UAC, did a full scan for viruses/spyware, reinstalling the game, verified the files and reinstalling my display driver as stated. :/

Are there any other factors that may cause it to crash like this? I currently only use window mode. (I installed a NVIDIA Forceware driver since there aren't any further updates available on the manufacturer's site and it no longer overheats the laptop.)

System Tab - System Information box -
Operating System :Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6001) Service Pack 1 (6001.vistasp1_gdr.080917-1612)
Processor :Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2080 @ 1.73GHz (2 CPUs), ~1.7GHz
Memory :2046MB RAM

Display Tab - device box -
Name: NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300
Chip Type: GeForce Go 7300
Approx Total Memory:889 MB

Display Tab - driver box -
Main Driver :nvd3dum.dll,nvwgf2um.dll
Version :7.15.0011.7813 (English)

Once again, thank you for any help.

It's probably something running in the back of your game. Like a music player or something.

My iTunes don't really coroporate with Perfect World.

I'm having the same problem. I set up shop, minimize the game and sometimes not 15 minutes later my client isn't running anymore.

after getting extremely frustrated about this, I checked my Windows Event Viewer, and found the events:
-A request to disable the Desktop Window Manager was made by process (elementclient.exe)
-The Desktop Window Manager was unable to start because composition was disabled by a running application

I googled the event, and found this thread: http://thevistaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=11181
granted, it's a different game, but it's the same error, and it sounds like it might be caused by the Vista Window Manager. I haven't tried Perfect World on a Windows XP system yet, but this seems like a possibility.

Thanks Manual. With that mentioned, I rebooted without using Winamp while playing. No problems with it crashing during active gameplay, but as soon as I minimized it while vending to post this, it just closed. Only programs I had open were MSN and a browser.

As for the event viewer, elementclient.exe isn't showing up at all in the application filter around the times it closed. And it doesn't occur with just PWI's client, but other versions. Afaik, it worked fine when on Windows XP. But I don't have full access to it.

I'll try it overnight to see if it closes. Thanks again.

Have you tried rolling back to the most recent manufacturer driver?

How much free space do you have on your primary (usually C:) drive?

Have you made any changes to the nVidia Control Panel settings, especially those that default to Allow the Application to Decide?

I haven't made any changes to it's 3D settings, except prior to the first driver rollback at the start of the problem. That change was towards the Anti-antialiasing - Settings from application controlled to 4x. When I checked again everything was on default under Manage 3D Settings. By any chance, when rolling back a driver, do the manual changes by the user remain the same or return to default?

It's supposed to, but in practice the matter is very up for grabs.

I'd try changing it to anti-aliasing to a different setting and then back to Application Controlled, if you can, and testing from there. It's a bit of waving a dead chicken, but it's worth checking out.

I applied that, rebooted and the game hasn't crashed while I'm in active gameplay from yesterday, which is a big help. It only closes randomly while minimized.

Thank you so much for your help.

Easiest fix to the closing when minimising try playing in windowmode which you can set from the settings in the launcher.
