Unable To Connect To Servers...Still

This is getting very annoying........
I used the DVD to install PWI on my laptop, a windows vista. It installs and patches fine, but when I get to the log in page, first a window pops up saying 'NOTICE: Page cannot be found!!!' and then goes to the log in page again. When I log in, it says 'Unable to Connect To Server'. I've searched through threads and talked to a few people who've been having this same problem, and I've had an account for at least three weeks now, and I've never been able to play. I sent a ticket the first time it happened. I've tried just about everything, and it still doesn't work. And my firewall and antivirus was turned off.

- Oh, and when I tried to install it on my...uh...Main computer, a Windows XP, the disk wasn't even detected. I think that that's a problem with the computer, but I was wondering if anyone might know a thing about that....

That include the Windows Firewall? It defaults to a fairly strong on in Windows Vista. Have you installed programs such as PeerGuardian?

The DVD is a DVD, so it can be problematic in some cases. Obviously, you need a DVD-compatible drive, rather than a normal CD-one, and DVD lense tolerances are significantly lower than those of CDs, so they can get damage easier.

Yes, I turned off the windows firewall. And I don't have programs like that. Any other possible explanations?

And that might be the problem with my computer, seeing as it's kind of old. I might not have a DVD-compatible drive on that one.

Perfect World's patcher.exe and launcher.exe require TCP port 80 access to the internet, elementclient.exe requires internet access to TCP port 29000 to the internet. Because your issue is affecting both the patcher.exe and the elementclient.exe, it's fairly safe to say that the issue is related to your computer configuration instead of general network ones (as long as your can access the web on that device).

I assume you're running with Administrative access, simply because Vista won't let you start up the launcher without a UAC prompt unless you do some *very* hackish work. Your device should be allowing patcher.exe access to your network device.

The next things that come to mind would be to check your proxy settings, and to ask for further details about how you access the internet (VPN software, ISP type, local router).

You can simply transfer the files directly over your LAN or with a thumb drive to get the DVD-less computer running. The Perfect World client is very light-weight when it comes to placement, so the only thing you'll need to do after copying them is make a new shortcut to the Patcher.exe or Launcher.exe programs.

Well, I used the Direct dowload on the main computer (the one the DVD won't work on) and it ended up working fine. As for the laptop, it's still not working, but the laptop's charger snapped, so I'll just have to wait to find out why. Thank you for the help.
