How physical defence to damage deduction % calculated?

I know physical defence number can be converted to a % of physical damage deduction, but how it is calculated? I mean how many physical defence representing 1% of physical damage deduction. I need the % number to figure out if I should put physical defence shard or HP+ shard into my armors.
