Halp! I can't make a decision!

Good, now that that's out of the way, on to my question:)

I'm new to PW, having played for a couple of weeks or so, and I had a couple of questions regarding classes. Namely, which one would best suit me long-term.

I'm looking for a somewhat floater-ish class that can fill a variety of roles in a group. Now, I've heard Venomancers fit the bill excellently, however, I cannot bring myself to play a female character. I'm not saying it's bad or anything, it's just not the way I enjoy my games. That being said, what are your opinions on race/class combos? I enjoy being able to do just about every role in a group, but I get bored if it's the *only* role I fill. I realize that by cutting out the veno's as a selection I really narrow down the field, but I am hoping someone can help me.

If anyone has any thoughts on the classes in early, mid, and late game, I'd love to hear them so I can make an informed decision. I have already made a couple of characters, and even spent real money on one, but I am just not really feeling it at this point in time, so I'd like to find out how they all do in the long-term before I go spending more money on a character that will simply collect dust, or, worse, be deleted.

Please, is anyone is able, help me.

Well I'm not much of guru on this game & I don't have multiple characters but heres what I feel.

The veno really is the only character that can do multiple roles, simply because it can have multiple pets each with different attributes. Some can tank physical, some tank magical, some deal decent damage.

The Barbs are mainly tankers (vit based). A strength/dex build for a barb can be a reasonable damage dealer but cant really tank due to low HP.

The BMs are mainly DDs (Str/Dex based). A vit based BM can tank a bit but wont do as much damage.

The wizards are the DDs (Mp based). I have seen some wizards that also load a lot of dex and use light armors for improved phy def, but they can never really be considered a tank.

The archers are also DDs (dex based) and can be quite effective. But they really cant tank/heal.

Clerics are the healers (MP based). Here the build depends on they skills they decide to learn/max first. There are some FAC (full attack clerics) which can do some deadly damage, but they cant heal much.

Using different stat builds can allow your character to do different things, but you will never be as good at those things as the class meant to do them.

And thats where the problem lies. This game requires you to work in groups. Many quests (FBs/dungeons for example) cant be done unless you're in a group (unless of course you wait for 30 levels to do them, at which point the rewards they bring are meaningless).

Most groups will require each individual to do a specific purpose and since you will never be as good at it as the class meant for it, you will have a hard time getting into groups.

My advice is, pick something YOU like to do (Tank/damage/heal) and make a character of the class meant to do that.
When the going gets tough; Get a tank!

A cleric can heal as dish out damage pretty well. BM are DD but can handel a fair bit of damage, but they are in all DD even though some think they are tanks they are not. WIZ=DD thats it. Archers are DDs too but they are more balanced than wizards.Barbs only tank.

    Why not try a cleric?

I've made quite a few other alts and get them to around level 30, but I keep coming back to cleric. Part of the reason is because of flexibility.

My cleric has the max damage of a full attack cleric (I currently 3 or 4 shot everything my level -- usually before they get to me). She also has max ironheart, which is pretty much the staple healing skill. Buffs levels vary depending on which buff it is (damage buff is at max for my level, physical def is one level away from max, etc) and just for kicks, I have max revive for my level. Other skills are at lvl 1.

I can be a great damage dealer, great soloer (although admittedly a bit expensive in terms of mana use), as well as a good support healer. I'm entirely self-sufficient (if I'm multi aggro'ed, I just yawn and stack a few ironhearts) and I like being able to switch from support to great damage dealer. Unfortunately, the problem with being a cleric -- no matter what type -- is that people will expect you to heal and heal only when in parties, unless you make it absolutely clear that you're there as a damage dealer. Since I solo almost all of the time, and only party for bosses, this hasn't been a big deal for me.

Plus, people report that SP stops being such a problem around the level 80 range. You'll be able to get all of your skills -- both heals and damage -- then. :)
