Level effecting drop rates

I don't see why level has to effect drop rates. I got tired of questing so I thought I would start just killing mobs. But when I kill a mob 10+ lvls higher than myself I get almost nothing for my efforts. The more I try and veer off the linear path that this game wants me to take the more slowly I progress. Doesn't leave much room for strategy or the fun of just doing something different for a change.

This game is obviously designed to keep players on a single predictable path. This may be a good thing as far as keeping the game balanced. But the whole point of a game is to find an advantage and exploit it to put you ahead of the next guy and to have different ways to progress that require strategic thought.

As an RPG the game doesn't have much of a skill aspect, which is understandable. But I expected it to have more of a strategic aspect, which I have yet to discover. Does the game ever become more than kill 20 of X or find 10 of Y or talk to Z over and over again?

Giving reward to players that wish to risk killing high level mobs would be a start. But perhaps the game could start implementing more and more strategic elements, for instance the card system from Ragnarok. Make the game a chess match and not a coin flip.
