both of your options lead to the same thing..sounds like you have a winner of a stat build... But your going to need more DEX than STR for a fist build. It takes a big man to cry, but a bigger man to laugh at him.

Stream Strike at level 9. Great attack, uses a lot of chi though. As the sun sets in the fire-blown sky, the advent of war falls upon us. I will go, fight for my nation, for my people. I will use my magic, to strike from a distance, never backing down. I will go, and bring glory to our kind. Because the time has come for this war to end. We need to band together and defeat the Wraiths. I will help make that happen. For I am a Wizard.

still lookin for lvl guide for skills
like for ex: should i lvl drakes ray or stream strike.?0 -
if you think about it you're just worrying about the all weapon skills right now.
you have to plan ahead to your weapon specific skills, which are a lot costlier and more important.
personally: i think drake's ray is a waste of mp in pve. I only use it sometimes to finish off a running mob
aoelian's strike is great though, get it.
and i leveled streaming strike because its very mp efficient, and, i tend not to spam skills anyway, so it worked great for me.
i didn't level tiger's maw or the bleed skill at all.0 -
I like Drake's Ray. It's the only range skill Fist BMs get. I use it to lure mobs and to kill mobs that tend to run away. Fists have the least range of any weapon and you'll be getting hit a lot if you have to chase a mob down.
I think Draw Blood is decent. It's damage over time, but the duration is only 15 seconds. Pretty short and it's a useful skill early on. I think it's fairly decent later on as well. It's much more MP efficient than Streaming Strike, After level 3, Draw Blood does more damage than Streaming Strike and costs less MP. Plus, you'll be building Chi to use on better skills rather than wasting it, Also, Streaming Strike pulls aggro which makes it useless in dungeons and boss fights. You do not want to pull aggro away from the tank,0 -
reminder about stats:
Heavy Armor requires 5 points per 10 lvls (roughly, i always buy the next piece of armor first, and make sure i have enough str for it).
to use the highest level claw/fist, you'll need a hefty chunk of dex too, making 5 str 4 dex 1 con the only real build that works.
though, you could always go 5 str 5 dex, and have some vit (maybe 20-40) to your liking.
most likely you will have 5 str 5 dex, and about 20-30 points in con. you will have at max, about 50 points to spare at level 90.
i like crits, and imo con doesn't help much, as i rely on buffs/life powder for hp regen, so I went the 5 str 5 dex path, with about 20 total points in con. it works well so far, though my life is dependent on my supply of life powders XD
and with people overpricing nectar as it is...its getting to be an expensive habit.
EDIT: if you decide to go with light armor instead (-not- recommended, at least for soloing), you'll only need about 3-4 points of str per level, leaving you with 1.5 free points per 2 levels. some builds then might be
3.5 str 6.5 dex for extreme crits (you'll have about 17% at lvl 90)
4 str 6 dex for more damage (still 14% crit i think)
4 str 5 dex 1 con for more hp
the last one is actually recommended, if you want a less dps more tanky build, as LA means you get hurt for a lot. unless you want to keep phys marrow up all the time, which isn't actually that bad of an idea.0 -
Though I'm a spear BM, I did use claws for a while earlier on. As for draw blood, it's a great skill for claw users because it fits in perfectly with their method of damage. Claws don't go for a single devastating hit like axes do, they're set up to hit MANY times in a short window. That said, draw blood lets you take advantage of your naturally fast attack speed while still getting in extra damage via skills.
Plus, it's really really fun to watch a torrent of red numbers rise from your targets' heads...0 -
I'm a lvl 46 fist/claw BM and to give u a list of skills that help me and that i've lvled are
Drakes Ray
Draw Blood
Auolian Blade
and the 4 fist skills
then for non attacking
Cloud Sprint
Bell
Roaring Pride
and Diamond Sutra
I recommend these and try to lvl the skills like Auolian Blade and Roaring Pride beacause stuns help a lot for the weapons fast attack rate. I also strongly recommend Diamond Sutra, its saved my butt plenty of times :P
I know its not detailed but hope this helps ^^ good luck0 -
This is what I do....I see a mob, I whip out my bow('cuz you know.....dex^_^) as soon as it gets a lil' near I switch to my fist/claw and use Drake's Ray the when we're close up and personal I use Draw Blood and then I just wack at it 'till its dead^_^........Oh yeah if too many mobs attack you at once, you could run...>.>......or AoE them^_^ we might not be as effective as an Axe BM but we're still pretty decent in that department 'cuz we got 4 AoE's(counting the stun 1)^__^b:pleased0

Alright so for build, its a matter of preference, as are all things in this game, but if you want the phys def to be able to tank bosses with a good cleric, you NEED heavy armor, but to be able to kill fast you NEED teh best/latest weapon. I suggest you look to your next fist/claw (try to get a sting of thorns at 30), and plan out your dex req so you get it on the dot as the level you get there (not before, thats a waste). Then do the same for str for your armor. After that IF you have extra points you can put them in vit, but really you will need most of your points right where they are, and personally my lvl 70 fist BM has maybe 20 vit without equips, and tanks just fine.
As for skills, I suggest never putting anything more than 1 level into anything pre-29, its a waste of money and spirit, and for a fist BM slows your DPS. At 29, start upping Diamon Sutra, it is your best friend, but when you get it up to about lvl 5 you can leave off leveling it til about lvl 60 when you might want to max it if you got some spare spirit. Don't use Vaccous Palm, its a waste of a spark, and again will slow your DPS. At 39 the fun begins, level Shadowless Kick ASAP, PERIOD, it is one skill you will use on every mob basically, especially after 55 or so when everything casts magic. At 49 you get Cyclone Heel, I love it, its a full circle AoE, and speeds up your attack speed for like 10 secs, level ASAP, PERIOD. At 59 you can get your 2 spark AoE, but again I think its a waste of sparks. Of course max fist mastery, and maxing Drake Sweep (the all weapon full circle AoE) is a good idea if you need to try holding AoE aggro (which isn't easy with fists) Otherwhise, the choice is yours.
I warn you though, fist BMs are the hardest BM to level IMO, poor damage comparitivly, and the least number of good skills. The only really good thing is we hit everthing pretty easily, and at 60 I was taking aggro from barbs no problem with my +4 Annhilator of Souls.0 -
I use LA and im dual path sword/fist i use the 2 str 2 dex 1 vit a lvl and i seem to do good and this is on my high lvl noth this character0

Ok please dont laugh or scold me I am new to this game but I have had trouble decideing which to use the fist or pole blade I like both but it seems with my strange build I do better but this is working at level 16.
Str = 40
Dex = 29
Vit = 21
Now I have a Steel Fist and a Pole Blade I bought at the auction. The Steel Fist is a store bought. Anyways I like the fist better and actually I did a test or should I say have been testing and as it stands right now the fist is doing better than the pole blade. I crit at least once every fight with Fist and my plans are for the next 3 levels to dump all into Dex.
My skills are
Maw lvl 3
Bleeding lvl 3 I think
Drakes Ray 2 I think
Steam Roller lvl 2 I think
The Bell at level 1
I didn't check these out, just the base stats. So my test was Tarantulax no skills just plain hitting same stats everything and I ended up with 44 more hitpoints when I used the Fist.
What is working is steam roller opening then bleed and fight till done usually. Seems to work really well. I like it.
I use Mithral now and healing potions but surprising enough I dont go thru very many. Now Im not good with math and all that but this is what Im doing just to get input and see the reactions.
Thanks

Its all a matter of what you want to do. In PvE both weapons are good, but if against single targets only, then fist is superior IMO. The spear though has the advantage in AoEs. If nothing else, at 70+ you can specialize in two weapon paths and at 90+ you can easily do all four if you want.
For your build though, don't go LA at any point, you can shard for mag def if you really think you need it, or we also have a skill called alter marrow magical which will reduce your phys def to add mag def for 20 seconds. There are two ways to build a heavy armor fist BM.
1) No points in vit, use the minimum dex req for your fists, and pump the rest into str. This build will limit your crits some, but you will do more damage per hit. I use this build and it works well for me (I also spliced into the axe skill tree at 70)
2) No points in vit, use the minimum str req for heavy armor, and rest into dex. This build will limit your damage, but will give you greater crit rate accuracy and evasion.
3) Minimum str for heavy armor, minimum dex for weapon, rest into vit. This build offers more survivability than the others, but I really don't reccomend this as it will limit your damage more than the others and BMs aren't supposed to tank unless neccesary.
With all these builds I suggest you shard for HP at all times, shards in your weapons depend on personal preference really. Refining your armor to add mroe HP is nice as well, but I don't suggest going too high unless you use dragon orbs. Refining your weapon is a must at 60+ imo. A good Annhilator of Souls legendary weapon at +4 will do you lots of good, and if you can get it higher all the better.
As for skills, if you go fist you have two attack skills that are important. At 39 you get Shadowless Kick, I always start with it. At 49 you get Cyclone Heel (I think they may have renamed it), it increases your attack speed, use it all the time. Non-combat skills that you should always level are Aura of the Golden Bell, Fist Mastery, and Diamond Sutra. Other than that for fist BMs nothing else is really good. I suggest though you get at least level one of Roar of the Pride for the AoE stun, Draw Blood is good in the early levels for some extra DPS, but is optional, and you may or may not want/need to level Drake Sweep and Fan of Flames, they good if you need AoE damage, but unless you are doing an FB or something you won't AoE as a fist BM much if at all.I am the biggest hypocrit you will ever see or hear, and I'm not afraid to admit it.
