The "Golden Egg" cs item --> a scam?

It costs 1 gold to buy a single "Golden Egg" in the CS.

Well when you hover your mouse cursor over the item in the shop it gives the following text:

"Brings a surprise to your equipment refining."

But then if you select it, the REAL purpose of this item is displayed:

"MIGHT contain a 1 Star Dragon Orb OR a Mirage Celstone."

So lets see, a 1 star Dragon Orb is only worth 50 Silver so half the value of this overpriced egg ..... and a mirage celstone is worth even less. Anyone who just hovers their mouse over the item and clicks "Buy" right away without looking at the details is going to get completely ripped off. It gives you the impression that it's going to add something "special" like adding an attribute to the item that you're upgrading or maybe a socket or something, but in reality it's a scam....

If you don't read item descriptions and don't research IN ADVANCE for ANY cash shop item on ANY game, you deserve to be scammed.

There's always a catch, and usually the description doesn't even mention it. Things might only work together with other cash stuff, or they might add unsidereable effects such as char-binding, or they only have a low success chance, or they might kill your free options (I recently heard that using a safe extension stone without first completing your free extensions will actually replace a free extension. Whether it's true or not I don't know, but it does indeed sound like a normal F2P cash scam). Things like that.

This has nothing to do with you, of course. Apparently, YOU did your homework :-)

I don't like how the cash shop system has soo many items that gives randomized item (such as pigments, aforementioned egg, etc.)

OK not quite a scam, but if one does the math it is hardly a bargain. If one were to purchase 100 golden eggs for 100 zen gold he would receive (aprox.) 10 mirage stones (value aprox. 3 gold), 71 1star orbs (value 35.5 gold), 11 2star orbs (value 22 gold), and 8 3star orbs (value 24 gold). The sum value would be 84.5 gold, a loss of 15.5 gold. Clearly, if the data is correct than these are worth no more than about 50-60 silver for the gamble.

Dude, every casino, horse race, bookie, and lotto in existence works on the same principle. If you calculate the odds, the players always lose on average. If it were a guaranteed loss, it'd be considered fraud. But because there's a chance (however slim) that the player could come out ahead, it's considered gambling and thus "ok".

Why do you think all the companies in Las Vegas make money? Because of this. :) No reason PWI shouldn't use thinly disguised slot machines as well.

Personally, when I buy an orb I'm not willing to gamble. Isn't the point of the orb to take the gamble out of refinement? I need the correct orb and I need to know what its gonna cost me. Now if this had a chance at an awesome ride (like the gold charm packs did) they would sell a ton to players willing to gamble for that. But overpaying for the joy of gambling on what orb I will get is about as appealing as paying extra at a restaurant to have someone else choose my meal.

I believe this to be true. While on the second PET BAG extension quest (Fruit), I bought a Cage (being very new, I saw one for 20, yes, TWENTY! thousand and used it right away naively) and it canceled out the Fruit quest.

    Beware.

The Pet bag increase is needing EITHER the hay/fruit/fungus quest OR cages from CS. If you're half way with collecting for 2nd slot, of course buying a cage will cancel out your fruit quest. It's one or the other. And since the second slot has been opened, it moves on to the third slot (needing EITHER fungus OR cage).
