Crafting Profit

At what point are you able to make a good amount of profit from crafting?

I am lvl 2 tailor and lvl 3 at apoth and blacksmithing and at this point it still costs more to get materials than what i can get for selling them. I am willing to make an investment for profit later on, but the price materials needed to craft increase pretty rapidly. Does the amount make increase faster?
