new to mages
i was wondering what should max stats look like. after reading through all of these topics, i feel a glass cannon would be the best choice. what is a decent amount for vit (if it matters). i think u leave the dex alone if you're thinking about not wearing lght armor and when do u cap the str.
also what is the preferred weapon of choice. i understand the consistency of no consistency but will it be worth for example getting a glaive instead of a sword?

Put as much into vit as you like. 0 points every level is labeled as a "pure" mage, 1 point a level is labeled "hybrid".
But who cares about labels for cookie cutter builds? 1 point into VIT is +10 HP; Feel free to put 1.5 points every level, or 1 point every 2 levels.
You probably want at least 3 points into INT every level and 1 point into STR every 2 levels. More into VIT means higher HP, more into INT means more damage.
As to weapons, I use whatever has the highest average (mean) damage for my level, although I do favor weapons with lower variability (magic swords).
Some people go for the weapon they think looks the coolest, others like to see spike damage and therefore love those weapons with huge variability.
Unlike other classes, we have no skills that require a specific weapon to be used so there is no correct answer to that question.0 -
Personally I haven't bothered with any points into Vit. My HP is 2150 at level 72. You should always be able to take at least 5-6 hits from similarly levelled mobs which is more than enough time to get yo' **** out of danger.
Adding Vit is a waste IMO as only 10 HP per point is wasteful, much better to add magic/dex depending on which armor you use. And get your HP from gear, try for +HP rather than +Vit. Also don't be afraid to add HP soulgems to sockets, you should always be able to get your money back for them as long as the gear they're attached to is high enough level, dont get too carried away socketing level 30 gear and certainly not anything that cannot be traded to another player i.e. some quest rewards and the Rank I gear. And if you can make sure its at least 2* and or has good effects.
For weapons dont worry too much just go with the flow. Your FB19 weapon will last you until at least level 35 then you can take a closer look. In your mid-late 40s you can get a couple of good quest reward weapons from killing Virridis and Jewelscalen then at 60 you can make your Twilight Temple weapon.I like pie0 -
