White name = fair game? (Especially in a PvE server...)

[First I never played any other MMO where there was PKing...just PWI - closed beta, so I did not know what to expect in a PvE optional server]

Does White Name = Fair game in a PvE server since people can CHOSE whether they want to be in PK mode or not?

Or are there still some dumb "rules" or something to abide by?

Basically i'm sick of PKing people just to hear them complain about getting PKed...even though they're running/flying around with a white name.

It's like...there are FEW enough people to PK in a PvE server as it is...and as soon as you do PK one it's suddenly a giant "WAR!". Why can't people just PvP at their leisure?

That's why I freakin went to a PvE server...so I could PvP with other people who wanted to PvP...instead of being surrounded by people who "don't wanna fight"...but play in a PvP server anyway (this was the problem in Closed Beta and why I went to a PvE server)

I figured if people play with a white name is means they want to kill...or be killed...not because they just think white is 'pretty' or 'cool'.

And the ones I actually casual PvP encounters with, on a friendly basis, went to PW- Europe or whatever the heck it's called.

Seriously guys: in a PvE server - White name = fair game? Why play in PK mode if you're not gonna kill or at least quitely get killed.

And what's worse is the leader of a certain guild is the one who actually told me the phrase "white name= fair game"...and now I PK ONE...ONE of their members and they are suddenly declaring war and getting their panties in a twist...

I'm going PvP next time I play another MMORPG...I seriously went to the wrong server...

I agree, if someone has a white name, they want to PK, so to me they're fair game. That doesn't mean revenge PK won't happen. Starting guild wars over it seems pretty silly.

First time I went into PK mode was for the thrill, to know what it's like, and yeah, as you said, because white is pretty, LOL. But if someone was to fight, then I'd do my damn hardest to fight back-- but I think I'm going to wait a bit before pressing that button again as I don't think I'm really ready for it. ^^x But yeah, on the PvE server, it's a person's own choice and if they get killed and they complain, oh well, their problem for putting themselves into that mode.

If you're on PvE, if you keep a white name up, don't complain if you get PKed. You have the option to not be PKed after all.

If you get pked in a PvP server, its called PvP for a reason (no difference if the other person is 50 levels higher than you, go to PvE if you don't want to get pked)

If you get pked in a PvE server, its cause YOU turned your name white

I've been playing this game for awhile, and I never notice anything that lets you turn PVP off/on or change the color of your name for that matter!

I never saw where the honor was in pvping anyway. It kind of makes me think some people just like showing off how big & bad they are with their skills & experience when they prey on people, just because they can.

Friendly duels, and all that is alright, but when you just go around whacking people off, your going to get yelled at. Some people treat PWI as a secondary life, meaning close to real life, but in the fantasy realm, and like life, I really don't think you'd be going around whacking people, unless your a Serial killer b:laugh.

People like to play in their own way I understand that, but it doesn't mean everyone else will share the same idea as everyone else. Its why they have PVP/PVE servers. So people can go on a bloodthirsty rampage on there, while others roleplay, and enjoy themselves peacefully on the other!!!! b:bye

Nevermind. I found it lol. They really should have that in the game options, instead of all the way up there by the compass lol, but anyway.... People should just let PVE people enjoy themselves, and the game, and worry less about their Pride & Ego's. Like real life. Thats what causes wars, indiffrences & bullies lol!!!!

Besides. That Ehterblade Server thats coming out is PVP I believe. So now you all will have two places to unleash your bloodrage lol!!!!

One last thing. I don't like this word, but if their too noobish to read the words, and hit the PK button anyway, then I could understand if you nail them down, and decapitate them lol, then thats their fault, and would be fair game, and then you pkers would be free to yell back at them lol!!!!

I do think that some lowbies would be fool enough to accidentally flag themselves and it wouldn't be nice to kill them. Killing people while afk or fighting mobs doesn't seem all that great either though. Isn't PvP supposed to prove that you're better, stronger, and more skilled than your opponent?

Yea I went in there once alone just to see what it was a like and I had no idea it was open PvP.

As soon as someone told me I forgot all about the chests...and started to target exclusively Radiance members...

Long story, but I left that guild because their leader tried to force me to turn my name blue and told me I wasn't allowed to PK because it was a "PvE server and no one should to be PKing in a PvE server"

Is it? I just think about PvP as being able to kill another player. If I kill another player I never really consider myself more skilled...the same goes if another one kills me. I think that is more what dueling is for because in a duel both people know it's coming. In open PvP usually one person is being suprised.

Yea...I'm starting my new job soon so I'm not going to have much time to play. I'm staying in my guild but just as a Marshal and i'm only going to log on to do TW...otherwise I get instantly bombarded by insane messages from guildmates asking me to do crazy stuff like tank Fugma or the Architect or Fb59 without wine (yea seriously...)...and then what was supposed to be 5 minutes in the game turns out to be 3 hours. If you are a white name in a PvE server thats even MORE reason to pk them. They did not have to be white name if they did not choose to. They put themselves in pk mode by choice so they have NO reason to complain when someone kills them.

I'm usually entertained by Wargasm and Blazz crew. But since Blazz quit I haven't seen the crew around anymore.

Either way, IMO Robe Cleric is probably better than LA Cleric... That's just me though, Plume shield seems to cover that end. Not experienced nor know too much about Cleric. I could understand LA Veno/Mage but not Cleric =o Cleric only has 10 second of being squishy. *Shrugs*

I was headed to the boss with a group, but there were people already fighting it...there were like 3 groups there. I actually only logged on to say something to someone in game...and decided to be nice to help my guildies kill the boss. I was then nice by letting almost 3 other groups kill a boss that has a very long spawn time.

Sick and tired of being bored in a server with nothing to do...coupled by sitting patiently on a boss for about 20 minutes made me wanna PK...so I scouted the area for a white name. I flew from Misfortune to Dawns Cry about 5 times before another group came over to the boss area as well...there must have been about 20 people there, my team included, and ONE person in PK mode. So yea, I was bored...and yea...there was someone to PK...i'd been aching to do it. So I did...and then they got revived and I did it again.

What's the big deal? Don't like it? Turn your name freakin blue and get on with ur life...seriously.

See? You gotta take action if you are unhappy with something. I was unhappy with being bored...so I PKed. When PKing wasn't even fun anymore because of whiners and crybabies who play with a white name yet don't wanna fight OR die I was unhappy with the server...and I quit.

PKing is just part of the game people...it's supposed to be fun and entertaining...not to cause gray hairs...people take it way too seriously. And greedy people who only think of VIRTUAL money and their own personal gain also make me extremely sick. So yea. I quit this game of immature people...even those who say they are over 20 or 30 and SHOULD know better...but still don't because they lack extreme social skills...can't blame them after living in their mother's basement their entire lives.

Based on what I read in this thread, the highlighted quotes from Fina that you used were out of context. I don't think they were related to PKing at all and were more of...general statements providing insight as to why this game community no longer appeals to them.

Here is a perspective from someone new to mmo's and this one in particular.
I have been playing for a month or two fairly consistantly. I came in completely fresh to the mmo experience but I have been playing games for a very long time.
I seem to be a pk magnet. It has gotten to the point where I don't play anymore without having to focus on everyone around me and I just want to do my own thing.
I chose the server I did because it gave me the best ping, I didn't know anything about the settings; my fault and I am willing to live with it now that I have invested so much time into my character.
However it seems that every time I have been pk'ed and I do mean EVERY TIME or every time I have seen someone else pked it went like this. The person who wants to do the pk'ing first makes sure that you are MUCH LOWER lvl than they are. Then they wait till you are weakened by whatever monsters you are probably fighting and they hit you when you aren't prepared and they are at full strength with all thier buffs. Of course then they go on and brag while calling you a carebear which I just find funny as hell (first off it doesn't make sense, and second people are just repeating it because they heard it once and thought it was funny It reminds me of Paris Hilton and all her clones saying "that's hot", or all the people who say "like" every other word).
Maybe if there was just a slight bit of honor in pk'ing there wouldn't be such an issue but there isn't and it sucks.
I want to play on a server where it is allowed in case I ever want to try it but I don't want to be forced to deal with it all the time. I have become paranoid and less likely to play lately because of it. My problem I know but what can I do?

P.S. what is all this stuff about white names and turning off pk mode? I looked it up and this is what I found

Level 30 and higher: These levels are free to PK. Once users become this level they are flagged for PVP. There is no way to turn it off but areas like cities will still be considered safe zones and will be PK off. Death in PVP will not result in the loss of experience.

Well I think we can all agree that if you turn your name white you are fair game. You have plenty of time (30 levels) to decide if you want to PK people or not. By turning your name white that is like signing a contract to be killed and to kill other players. People will whine if they r pked no matter what the circumstances are. If you do not want to pk then simply do not turn your name white. End of discussion lock the topic
