Heavy armoe->fox form

I've read hte comprehensive venomancer guide. I've understand it like heavy armor is for fight in fox form. I'm now lvl 10 and the stats are: Vit 15, Str 12 Mag29, Dex 10.
My problem is I could fox form only use with a magic weapon or barehanded. If I have equiped my weapon I deal 43-56 physically damage and 90- 124 magically damage. The fox use deals with his normal atack physical damage but that is very low. What can I do to inflict more damage? Should I change my idea and don't use heavy armor or what else can I do?
