you truly dont know what grinding is unless you played Shaiya, they have 4 modes:easy(lvl up extremly fast, but cant progress above lvl 30),normal (a bit faster than most games),hard (you need 4x more exp than in normal) and ultimate (i dont even know how much exp you need, because i never got there),i guess i should mention that to unlock hard mode you have to reach lvl 50 in normal, and same with ultimate, you have to be lvl 50 in hard mode, lvling your normal mode character above lvl 50 is not really and option, because you are simply to weak,i got to lvl 20 in hard mode but i just couldnt take it anymore, not only you have to grind but you play the same game for a second time, i truly dont know how people get to ultimate mode ,now that i think about ,Shaiya should get some kind of grinding emmy, they took grinding to whole new lvl lol

I'm lvl 56 also and i have finished those yet either...i still need gouf for my spiritual cultivation and a few other of the bosses in that same area that i should have had done long ago...but being a veno i need help and its almost impossible to get any of the higher lvls to help..i wsp when someone wc's for squads and never get a response back...i don't see the point in even having the group quests when ppl aren't willing to take the time to help. They forget they were noobs once too. Someone obviously helped them..but they don't seem to remember to pay it forward. I guess I'll just have to do the big grind till i'm high enough lvl to do them myself. Its sad when ppl can't take the time to help...i've met very few ppl on the server (They were kind and they know who they are :) ) that are even willing to help at all...if you're not in their faction or their buddy they don't give you the time of day. I have had about 4 or 5 ppl on the entire server that have ever been willing to take the time to help and with the number of ppl on the server (heavens tear) thats a sad percentage. Oh well guess thats the way it is, so i'll just keep grinding i guess and forget the rest. As much as i hate those quests its all i have at this point. b:surrender

People who help no-one but themselves (FB includeed - and yes, I'm looking at you venomancer people primarily) are expecting to be helped by anyone when they need it later in the game?

Ha, look at yourself in the mirror.

I just got to lvl56 and picked up three quests. Kill 60 Rattus Snipers, Kill 60 Foxwing Supremes and collect 45 of something from Shrunchkin Flamethrowers. I still haven't finished my Kill 60 Taurox Warlock quest because I hated doing it. These are the only quests I can really do at this stage becuase all my other quests are in FB51 and I can't get a group to go in there. Seems to be a dearth of tanks and healers on our server.

The point is, I'm fed up of the apparent lack of imagination being put into the quests. I'll probably log on two or three more more times and unless I get an FB run one of those times I shall probably quit. I have better things to do with my time than grind.

I also really do not understand why as we level higher the amount of mobs we have to kill increases. Sure we are getting more powerful, but the mobs get more powerful right along with us. Basically the game is just getting more and more tedious. 30 mobs is a reasonable amount to be made to grind, 40 is getting too much, 50 and above is just gruesome. I can see most people leaving this game at round about lvl 60 - 70. It's a shame because it has so much going for it.

Perhaps I'd have a better chance if I wasnt living in England and questing at times when noone else is around. My chances of getting a party with more than two are pretty slim. A party of five might have some chance of not going mad before they finished these quests.

    dang u call 60 mobs a grind?

u obviously haven't player Lineage 2 or wow, where u occasionally have to kill over 100 for a quest

in L2 u even have those messed up quest where u only need 1 item, but the chance is so damn low, u end up killing over 500 to get the item, and nothing along the way to keep u motivated...

I know I played Lineage 2 MUCH longer than I will currently play PWI. You can't compare Lineage's gameplay to PWI's one. Killing 100 in mobs in L2 can be very fast whereas killing 80 mobs in this game is A PAIN because it's freaking slow with delays and blah.

I believe this game is coming to a stopping point, where you are considered to be able and willing to work readily in groups of more than two people. I don't believe that this is your simple, solo grinding, non-professional game where you can simply kill everything single-handedly (although, some beg to differ).

If anything, I consider working in groups to be fundamental. It helps you to socialize more often, and alleviates the amount of work put on you at any one time. If you feel that you cannot keep up with being able to adventure and quest in groups, then maybe Perfect World is not for you.

Hahayea I think all MMO's need to change, We should get 5% exp for everytime we use the "dance" emote. Oh and while we are at it, why dont we make it so everytime you delice a party invite you get another 2% exp. AAANDDD of course! everytime you write "*i get my wizard hat and cloak*" in a pm to a female player you gain 1337 exp!
    (sarcsm off)

Seriousley dude, what do u want? You complain about lack of quests and boring way the quests work etc, how about you tell us how you'd make it all better?
I dont go play quake online and then after 7mins goto their forums and have a uber rant about how ppl just killed me all the time and no one even wanted to chat or cyber.
This is what mmo's are all about! you are supposed to grind for 400 years until u reach some ungoldy level and spent another 3 lifetimes in HH/CV or w/e and made urself some super uber equipment and then you walk around in dragon city looking like a cross between a rainbow and a battle tank on steroids with noob elf girls throwing themselves on the dirty ground so you dont need to get your shoes dirty.
i'm not sure what it is called here, but in other games when you post something that was important for new players to read ,they would mark it as sticky, well after reading soooo many whiny posts this is as STICKY as it gets, hell it should be required to read, what can i say,you nailed it!!!!

The problem is is that -most- quest in any MMO consise fo some varation of 'Go out and kil!' grindins. ...

Mhh, no. It may be true that for many MMO's most quests are of the bounty hunting type, it is not so for any - or all - MMO's. It's even possible for MMO's to have both variety in quests as well as a main story, or plot.
Also, are most MMORPGS(WOW, EQ etc) complete grindfests with terrible storyies that your character has no influence on?

No and Yes. There are some, but it is rare that a game allows your character's decisions to branch the storyline, in this sense your character has little choice but to follow the main plot. Not all MMORPG's are (complete) grindfests, though most offer the option. For many players PvP is the final entertainment in any MMO, after all every human (controlled) opponent presents a new challenge.
What else do you expect from quests?...
It's pretty sad that standards have dropped so low that people don't expect, perhaps even don't know, anything else.

Makes sense, if you don't like the grind then it's not your game. There are alternative (MMO)RPG's and different types of game. It's a game, entertainment, it's supposed to be fun and if it isn't fun, you're better of with something that gives you more pleasure.

you are all right. I would like to see more quests that have to do with delivering rather than killing mobs it gets very tedious and litterally makes me turn off the game and do something else.
I am lvl 39 and i most of my quests require me going into the gate of delerium and killing mobs...
I for one cannot do that solo with my mage and not many people want to squad up to go kill mobs.
I strongly believe it would help the game to put in more quests that require you to do minor tasks and delivery.

I must say, I am an older player. I've played so many MMOs I've forgotten all the names. Lineage, FlyForFun, 9Dragons, Chaos, Guild Wars, and the lists goes on. Every game I've ever played in MMO once you got to high levels you grinded your butt off. Personally to me, it's a great way to end a day and relax. The great thing I hear are there are still quests higher up. I mean what do you want super easy to Hero Superior Status? Then what? I make goals. Even though I am almost lvl 27, which I would say a lot of games at lvl 27 you would be grinding a lot harder than here, I give myself goals. I do occasionally skip over to another character if I become bored with a quest sometimes (not often). This game is awesome so far, even though there are some problems, but it's not the game that's the problem it's some of the greedy players. Again I am use to that too. Sure things get expensive but if you grind you can easily afford the things with a goal and selling. The CS here is the norm for most USA CS. Lol, us Americans can be greedy. As far as parties? If my b/f isn't on whom I got to play this recently and he left Guild Wars because this game rules so far, I don't squad. I like soloing. If I can't complete a quest because of difficulty, I just let it wait until I am of a higher lvl and go back to it. Where the extra exp is sweet and the drops are mine at that higher lvl. I just bought a manaray from a player for a good price. My goal? Get to lvl 30 so I can use it. b:thanks I will not spend my paycheck in the CS to some of the things in game are corrected, not because I think the items are too high. Just my piece on this.b:cute

Naw they all want the game on XP Bonus WTFPWNBBQ God Mode so they can be max level in 2 days by killing high level boss mobs in one hit.

Been grinding games since BBS's (Tradewars2002 anyone?).... They are all the same. How they implement the grind is slightly different, but ultimately they are all exactly the same. Grind Grind Grind.

Thats what makes it so fun. Don't wanna grind just one type of mob? Fine, destroy everything around you that moves. Just be glad that (at least so far as I have seen) a mobs Hatred for you doesn't grow as you kill his brothers, increasing agro range towards you the more you kill.

Imagine killing 800 mobs of the same type and that 801'st suddenly triggers a mass agro on your butt from all around you. THAT would be a... oh wait thats a great idea... Xarfox, suggest it to the DEVS!

Lol. I find the mobs that run from you directly into a group of argo mobs absolutely funny even when I die. It's like the non argo mobs run to their buddies for help. Hey, I'm older, taking care of sick parents, going to college, and working. This game is funny and enjoyable and relieves stress. And it gets amusing as stated above.b:chuckle

I'm having the same thoughts and im a lvl 26. This is my first fantasy mmorpg and i decided to try this f2p game becuase i didnt want to pay a monthly fee to find out if i like the genre or not. I've been playing this game pretty steadily for the past two weeks and i have to say that so far i dont think this genre is for me.

I certainly wouldnt pay a monthly fee for to play a game like this where nearly every quest is really just "go kill monster x amount of times". it lacks any creativity, yet its still so addicting. And i think games like these are so addicting because you get into a mode where you think: Well maybe it will change after this quest, or the next one, or so on and so forth. At least this is how i felt. And so far i haven't really felt like the game has.

I will continue to play this because there are still features that i havent expierenced( FB's, TW, Guilds, PVP). hopefully those features offer enough variety to keep me going.

Also, are most MMORPGS(WOW, EQ etc) complete grindfests with terrible storyies that your character has no influence on?

Well the forum MODS may deem this inappropriate here but I would advise you to try Runescape. Its the browser based game and the graphics are not as hot, but the questing is awsome, and actually changes the world around you as the hero. I would characterize Runescape as more of an Adventure game and less of an RPG though, its well worth the 5 bucks subscription rate for membership. And incidentally i found a banner ad for PWI on one of the Runescape fan sites and followed it here.

But more on the topic of this thread, i'm not really suprised to hear how tedious the grind can become at higher levels because I know this is an Asian designed product and these MMOG's tend to be heavy on the grind. Apperaently thats what Asian's want thier games to be like. You need very little skill to be successful here, it all depends on how much time you are willing to dedicate to reacing the goal. And of course money helps a great deal here, you may not advance faster but you can avoid all the penalites of death with a few cash shop items. Clearly the game will be better if you can find people to group with for quests, I know the OP mentioned thats a problem at his hours of play unfortunately.

i disagree on the point of someone saying Wow is a grindfest

The amount of quests in wow is staggering, so is the variety, from flying quests, to minigames to what not.

HOWEVER wow is much more expensive than PW (unless you buy CS items with abandon)

so yeah, you get what you pay for more or less.

doesn't mean i enjoy the mind numbing grind, but i try to squad whenever i can.

I just started grinding with a Blade for certain mats for the guild mules. Harder too get em higher level but we need them mats, Im actually really enjoying it, i have a new toy too play with, One that can take a beating an giggle about it afterwards. The guild gets the mats we'll need and all it costs me, is a few hours here an there. It breaks things up abit.

I have no idea why players run out of quests so early. Since lvl 20 i've never been upto date with my quests always doing at least a lvl lower than my chars.
Though i have been doing DQ's, not full on but if i happen to pass something needed on my DQ's i do it. Im lvl 60 still have 15 quests to do aint picked up all lvl 59 quests and no lvl 60 quest.
Oh and yeh i've NEVER had to Grind.

The very first quest you receive with a new character is of the grind type that the OP is fed up with.
