Trading less the full stacks of items

ok i'm tying to help my friend that is doign the crafting quest and i try to trade about 4 herbs out of a stack of 21 but i can't seem to figure out how to just give him 4....

    Press ALT while dragging the stack to a new location

    doing the above will bring up a box allowing you to select the specific amount.
