Feeding strategy?

Well, in some thread some guy said that he feeds his pet whenever the icon goes green.

Well, I've been doing that... but now that my supply of spring water is getting to an end and you can't just point your pet to the next river, it seems I'll have to use those overpriced 52 gold/piece waters.

It also seems that the "feed when green" strategy raises loyality. Which might not be bad, but the yellow bar is getting dangerously close to "full". So I don't need to raise loyality...

Is there another "color" or other indication to use? Basically, I can afford loosing a few loyality before feeding... in an ideal case, I would use exactly the amount of loyality that gets restored by the feeding. But I don't want to check the pet all the time, so the color change was okayish. I don't like to micromanage things, but at least it was acceptable.

I feed my pet whenever it goes green. I buy 500 waters at a time, and they last a good long while.

If you're feeding when you lose a little loyalty just to gain some of it back, you're still feeding it at regular intervals and using basically the same amount of water.

You're going to want to keep your loyalty above the 500 mark (I think that's when it's 120%?). So even if you let your loyalty go down to 500, you're going to be feeding it regularly to keep it there.

By the time your spring water runs out you'll care less about the 52g. By that time deaths will occur more frequently and that will keep your yellow loyalty bar from filling up too rapidly.

Icons change color every 5 minutes. So technically, once it goes green, you can wait 4 and a half more minutes before feeding it, and then it'll go back to a normal color portrait for another 5 minutes before becoming green again. This'll let you use water at about half the rate you were going at before.

Alos note that as your pet gets hungrier, the amount of loyalty you get from feeding him decreases. So, you lose loyalty two ways which makes it too much of a hassle to try to micromanage.

I generally feed my pets a water every 5-8 minutes. But even if you're feeding every 5 minute exactly... That's 624 coins every hour if you have your pet out for an hour straight. Are you really not making 624 coins/hour that you can't afford to feed your pet? Generally I earn an hour's worth of water in 2-4 kills from just coins, let alone drops.

    I hope you're joking.

As a venomancer you should be able to make 10x that in an hour. Heck, even a barbarian (who burns through repairs and hp pots) or cleric (mp pots) would have that much left over after an hour of grinding.

If it's that annoying to you there's a book you can buy in the cash shop that eliminates that problem for a week.

Hm... I guess 52 gold for a potion that I have to use all the time only looked bad on first sight :-)

When you have the pet out, the pet picture will turn first green, then yellow, then orange at 5 minute intervals. the longer you wait before feeding the faster the loyalty of the pet will drop.
To feed the pet you need water or other food, which you can get at the per skill trainer. (most pets take water. There is one ot two exceptions).
I put my water in a quickslot for easy access.
Just press the number of the quickslot you place it in and the pet will get fed. Food has a cooldown time, so you have to wait for the cooldown before being able to feed again.

    It's as easy as that.

    Hope this helps.

I don't believe they were complaining... Pretty sure the point was that you shouldn't have to worry about it =/
