where can i find maps showing NPC locations etc etc

    You cant however what you CAN do is use the coordinate system to track where it is you need to go

    Bottom-right there a green arrow. It's for locating NPCs, which will help. Just enter the city, then the name of NPC, then there'll be an arrow pointing to where that person is. Follow it =]
