Executing the game??

After downloading the game and installing it, how do I run the actual game? Everytime I use the desktop shortcut of the program file, I get taken to the patcher. I'm downloading whatever it wants me to do, but after about an hour or so of waiting for the "elements.data" download, I get an error.
1) [How] Can I fix this? And
2) Can I just run the game without doing this? If so, how?

    1 ) Download the Manual Patcher, available halfway down the page here (direct link). Run it.

    2 ) You can run the client executable itself, in \elements\elementclient.exe, but it won't actually work, nor would the game let you connect with an improper client version. Keeping up with patches is one of those costs involved in online games.
