pet not lvling up

this may come as a dum question but i just started out as a VM and notice that my pet isn't leveling up, beyond me. i think i was level 5 mid way and my pet was already at the max of level 5. and by the time i hit level 6 so did my pet.

so why does the pet not level beyond our level?

    Your pet level can't be higher than your own. That's just the way it works.
