can not open as archive

wth.. i downloaded the entire thing.. im attempting to open it with 7-zip and etract files.. after doing so i get an error message saying can not open / / // / file name and stuff?// as archive.. wth?


any advice.. anyone just buy the dvd? was that easier?:mad:

I'd recommend not using 7zip on .exe extension files; the included unextractor is usually more reliable and sometimes even faster. If you have a very old version of 7zip or WinRAR installed, I'd recommend updating it.

That said, this issue usually indicates some sort of error during transmission. If you downloaded through Direct Download, one of the official mirrors, or through the torrent method, there's a clean enough fix that won't require you to download the whole thing again.

The easiest and fastest workaround is to use a torrent program to verify the file. Ryuuzaki has a good guide on the matter, and his Alternative Method for Corrupt Files using Direct Download (with a quick tweak for the changes to the installer) can save you a lot of time :

Download a bit torrent program, such as uTorrent.
Download the torrent controller and open it with your torrent program.

You should then be asked where y ou want to save the file. Browse to the directory where the original Perfect World International.exe file is located (should be my Documents\Downloads), and click OK. The torrent program should then start checking the integrity of the file and correct any corrupted files. You can also right-click on the file in the download area, and select Force Re-check to make extra sure.
