    Its both. You get a quest to enter the dungeon and kill a certain amount of monsters, when you meet that requirement the quest info changes on the spot and tells you to beat the boss that is in the back of the dungeon,

    First you need to finish your cultivation i think. then you get the first call of duty-quest from your starting town elder.
