Werefox build - High Mdef?

I'm currently building my venomancer as a battle fox (melee fox). I saw from guides stating that battlefox have high Pdef and Mdef but low HP and low/average dmg.

One thing I failed to understand is how on earth can a battle fox have high Mdef when you pump majority of the points into str?

I'm not sure whether I'm on the right path but I seems to be very weak against Magic Attacks. I know its not recommended to go pure melee but lets just say I want to do it.

My character info (no additonal stats added from items):

My current lvl - 28
My current vit - 9
My current str - 64
My current mag - 66
My current dex - 16

P.S - Oh yea, I'm capping my mag to 66 to use Mirage Sword (lvl 22 magic sword) for, maybe, the rest of my time playing as venomancer and I'm using heavy armor.

Edit: What if I pump just enough stats for my lvl 40 heavy armor set and the remaining stats point into con for maybe up to lvl 60? What do you think?
