Red weapon box?

I'm sorry if this has been brought up but using the search brought anything but relevant answers to my question.

I was doing a quest when all of a sudden my weapon box went red. I asked a dozen times in game but received no help. What happened?

I did go to the blacksmith and repaired my bow but that box is still red and it tells me "Unable to attack" any help would be muchly appreciated.
