Elf Flight (xtreme noob ?)

I hope you folks will forgive me, but my Elf Archer must learn to fly. I can only fly fairly level. When doing the tree chest quest, I get no height to speak of. I target upper levels of the trees, but get no additional height. Any help? Pleeeeeze!

Another option is to keep the W key pressed and use the mouse for direction (including up and down) by holding down the right mouse button.

You can also use the arrows to go up and also to go back down . A fast way to descend is to stop flying and fall to the ground - no health is lost this way.
