Game's names in general

Well, I do know that this is originally a Chinese game.

I do know it is inspired in Ancient China.

But I also know it is a fantasy world, and it was first created for a Chinese pool of players. Now it goes international for a different language speaking pool.

While yes, it is somewhat understandable that the game owners of the international license want to make it different-sounding than the other world editions, from the marketing point of view sticking to the Chinese naming is a bad idea. Non-Chinese speaking people do not find it easy to remember names like "Ho Jensi" and "Tso Wo". PW-MY, being destined for a larger audience pool, saw that and tweaked the names to be more appealing and easy to remember for an international English-speaking audience.

Now when it comes to places names... they are mostly all right, but what in the world did you guys think when you named Ancient Dragon Castle "Archosaur"? Is it supposed to be an extinct species of dinosaur or a castle? Because that is what the suffix "-saur" means in English, "sauropode". And "Arch" as a prefix means "over, above", so what is the name of the place meaning? "Super-dinosaur"? How does that relate to the general idea of Ancient China? Wouldn't it have been easier to leave the "Dragon Castle", Castle of the Four Dragons (see the fountain in the middle) or something like this? In the effort of doing the naming as different from the other versions, this is quite a blunder.

And mob names? What in the world is a "kuhu"? In game it's a supersized bug. Is "kuhu" the word for "bug" in Chinese or something? I don't speak Chinese, of course, but in order to successfully play and remember names of mobs in this game are we supposed to learn Chinese? Because until further notice, most of the time when players ask abotu such and such mob, it's still "those red myriapodes" or "the purplelittle dinosaurs" and stuff like that.

Surely a mob and NPC -naming contest or poll or something done way before CB would have started would have been more efficient in coming up with names for this game that would have been appealing to the player. Just a simple marketing thing.

I totally agree with all of this and had the same idea of allowing game players to come up with names in a different board.

But good explanation of fall the facts. =)

I dont agree with it at all. Im dutch and play with chinese players for over 7 years in 1 guild, and i never had any problems remembering their names. And about the names of the mobs ! Np there to. I never really care how they called. I just remember how they look and what lvl they are. And i think the chinese touch adds something to the gameplay. It makes y feel like some ancient samourai. *ancient* like in *great*:)

What do I have to be defensive about, if you like MY better I am sure no one will miss you here. Just stating the fact, there been far to many threads on the same subject, its just becoming redundant. There is also no need to be rude.

Its just some names, you don't even need to know what they mean. You can't put a name for an object and remember it? Archosaur are ancient species that are the closest resemblence to dragons to have lived... though ironically, closest to "Western" Dragons. As for the original chinese name, it was supposed to be Ancient Dragon or Ancestor of Dragon, but translated to Archosaur, weird.

Don't get upset. The reply "go back to MY if you don't like it here" only shows that the poster actually doesn't have any arguments or ideas in order to keep up a discussion, and posts just for the sake of posting. Completely useless when it comes to the suggestions that the GM's were looking for when they made the suggestions board.

Yet these retort posts are so ontopic huh ? I would really think before you post so you dont make such a blatant contradiction. Its kinda funny to see someone accuse someone of doing something while they are doing it themselves.

To be on topic no thanks to these two, dont expect for every name that is unliked to be changed, but it is good just give constructive critizism for GM to take in account. Especially if it all all in this thread. Its very hard for the GM to take in account everyone opinion on the subject when its scattered in twenty different threads like it was not to long ago. My opinion is that I find that overall the names are good (I am fond of Archosaur ) even though some monster names does come off odd. Nothing that bothered me all that much though, there always names that just never seem to fit.

@Haze : A course I would be rude to someone who is rude to me. Especially sense you misinterpreted my original post as well. I was saying that if you liked the MY-EN names, they are till there and you can play that version. I do appoligies if you misunderstood, anything what I said after that was just out of annoyance from being misunderstood and the pure ammount of spam threads complaning about PWI not having same names as MY-EN. This been going on ever sense the forums been open with the names of classes -.- Anyways I do not wish to drag forum anymore OT so ill leave it at that :3
