Unable to extract exe file. Any help?

After running through several "HELP ME!" boards and not seeing what I needed help with, I've decided to make a new board myself. Sorry. :o

I downloaded the game to completion. When I finished, it asked me where I wanted to extract the files to. I selected the folder I wanted, and hit extract. It them popped up the message "Unable to extract (blahblahblah, the file) as a archive." Now, is it supposed to be extracting it as an archive? I have no idea what I'm doing, lol. So I tried extracting it with a few of my own programs, like Winzip. Nothing worked, always ending up with it asking to extract and having the error. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I'll be hanging out for a bit to answer questions.

I'm running on a Windows 2000 with all the suggested requirements met. Any questions or suggestions?

    Try extracting using WinRAR.. Google should provide you with the website.
    If all else fails try downloading through a different website.

    Instead of choosing a folder to extract to, move the download folder to the folder you'd like the files to be in then Right-Click > Extract All. Having it in the folder you want should make that its default location. Not sure if this helps but was worth a shot. :o

    Hmmmm, I'll try it once it's finished downloading. Thanks for the suggestion. =)

    So, after try number two, it finally downloaded the file into the "download" folder. Only when I go to open it this time, it opens a black box with the words across the top defining the folder that the exe file is in. The black box appears for about .5 seconds and then disappears. And that's it. Zip. Zilch. U.U So I'm trying to turn it into a Rar and then see what I can do with it then, but once again, I'm out of ideas...

    Have you tried just opening the compressed file and running the install.exe without extracting? It might not work though I checked before posting this and I know it works just fine with some programs.

    Edit: Dumb question, but are you trying to extract files from the PerfectWorld_Downloader_v3.exe file you download from the site? If so, that's the problem. You just double-click it and it'll run the download for the client.

    I have also had this problem. Winrar gave this error:

    ! C:\Documents and Settings\Myke\My Documents\Azureus Downloads\Perfect World International.zip: The archive is either in unknown format or damaged

    Next I tried using the stock extraction program that comes with XP. This worked to unzip the files, though it was not pleasant, i.e., the extraction kept locking up.

    After unzipping the files I tried to install. It seemed to work fine, the install began until it asked if I wanted to verify the files. I clicked verify and got this error messsage:

    Data pack (data1.pck) broken. Please redownload install file.

    After downloading the data twice I am of the opinion that the main download torrent file is broken.

    Edit: I have also used 7zip with the same broken data results.

    Has anyone had success with the torrent? Can anyone suggest one of the mirrors they have had luck with?

    I tried the direct download version and upon completion I got this error message:

    7-Zip:Diagnostic message:
    CRC failed in 'Perfect World International\data2.pck'. File is broken.

    This far I have tried downloading from the following sources:

    main torrent twice
    Direct Download
    File Front
    File Shack
    mmofury- which won't even download, (I think they are overloaded)

    any advice would be appreciated

    I have the newest 7-zip as well as the newest WinRar
    During downloads my firewall and antivirus/spyware were NOT running

    DSL connection
    Windows XP running on a 2.1 Athlon
    1 G ram
    6800 gt (not that makes a difference.
    For torrents I have the newest version of Vuze/azerus
    Oh and a fresh windows install with up to date drivers and patches.

    I'm running out of ideas here. also tried this:

    Well, I used Direct and got around it just by downloading the game 4 times. The first time I couldn't extract the files. The second time the extracted files couldn't be accessed. The third time it was missing some files. Finally, the forth time, it loaded fine. So... :confused:

    I hear you. I started at nine am and it is now two am my time. At this point I think I have everything but data3.pck. I'm working on my fourth torrent download now. I've exhausted everything in the two sticky threads in the support forum. If it doesn't work this time I'll sleep on it and try again tomorrow after work. I've been looking forward to this beta for awhile now, hopefully I will get to play it before September 2nd.:rolleyes:

    I also had trouble downloading the client files on one of my pc's. I tried direct download, bittorrent, nothing worked, always i seemed to have a broken data1.pck. very frustrating!

    After trying a whole day, i came up with an idea the next morning:

    I did have a good working client on my other pc, so i burned the files on a dvd, took the dvd to my other pc, and you know what? IT WORKED!!!

    So it might be a good idea for everyone, when you got a good working client, to make a cd/dvd as back up, in case something happens to the pc, saves hours downloading! b:laugh

    you know its probally illegal to do this i dunno why
    but i got a strong feeling it is,its probally stated somewhere in the ToS
    its impossible to always do the right thing we all make mistakes i am not different from that
    just try to be a good person
