Hey Folks:

We've made a minor switch from our original Closed Beta shutdown plans.

Check out this stickied thread for all the details:

http://pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=19841

For those of you wanting to stretch out your Closed Beta playtime we've extended the shutdown window from August 27 until September 2nd. This means you can keep playing your toons all the way through Labor Day Weekend!

For those of you eagerly anticipating the September 2nd launch of the Open Beta nothing has changed - we still plan on delivering at 2 p.m. (PDT)!

Thank you for the update! Will there be a large patch between closed beta and open beta?

there will be a patch. Probably not that big in size, but it will address a wide variety of fixes and improvements.

And what will happen to the events timing?

From what was said, East and West servers were to have the timing of event adjusted for eastern and western palyers' time.

Now with only 2 servers, that won't be doable anymore.

It should not be too hard to plan it for the North American timezones (only 4 hours to cover), but it could be hard for the europeans.

Otherwise, not a bad idea to cut the servers to 2 to begin with. Players won't end up being spread to thinly as it would have been with 4.

If I'm not mistaken, Open Beta will launch with four servers?

Apparently, they just changed it to 2 servers. 1 PvP (Lost City). 1 PvE (Heaven's Tear)

I'm just worried about how they'll optimize event times now, TWs especially, for both US West/East and European players. It's a huge timezone to cover.

Oh, I didn't read that thread. Hm.. and I thought Orinj said there will be PvE servers. Not that I care too much as I will play on the PvP servers but if this is any indication of what's to come (making a promise then failing to deliver) then you guys are well on track to well... you know what I mean.

Uh... theres going to be 1 PVP and 1 PVE

The "four servers" thing was probably planned before the deal for the European servers was concluded.

Those euro servers will likely drain some of the players they planned would have come to play here.

To be honest, as a European (and intending to pay) player, I would like to know how the administrators hope to make event times reasonable for all regions.

That will be great then for most of us who won't have to download like 2 and a half gigs again!

(If not already in the works, then a suggestion is to re-release a full open beta client anyway to minimize the risk of new players downloading one of several the corrupted versions from the mirrors out there, and to minimize patch server load.)

It would be nice if the *manual patch* could be downloaded a day or two before the switch. Everyone could have it ready to install after the servers switch to OB. It would minimize traffic on the patch server and help distribute the load better for the mirrors.

Would be impossible unless they held the same event multiple times throughout the day.

We already knew ahead of time that this would be a concern to the players and we will be doing our best in making sure the majority of the player base can be involved in all planned events. All the European players will be taken into consideration as well ;).

I agree with having a manual patch also!

(Edit: See next post: That would be very possible because they have two server groups with 1 PVE and 1 PVP server each to make 4 separate servers in all. They could set Territory War time to be different on the East and the West server groups.) For GM sponsored events, even on PW-MY, if you remember, they had events staggered between Oracle and Delphi, only if it was because it was the same GM doing the event on the 2 separate servers.

My bad. Thank you for correcting me! Hmm... Lost City and Heaven's Tear seems to imply the servers will be working with Eastern Time, or GMT/UTC -5, which makes most sense to also be able to support European players. A territory war/event time of 6:00PM [edit: 5:00PM] on the east coast of USA would be 22:00 GMT/UTC which is probably absolutely fabulous for most UK and Portuguese players and not too late for the rest of Europe which has UTC+1 [edit: for those who are night owls]. It would be kind of early on Friday for most players to be locked into Territory War on the west coast of USA, or Hawaii, but we'll be alright because factions probably have some mixed time zones.

Mmmm.. A bit wrong on the time. There is a 6 hours difference between the east coast time and GMT+1 countries.

So 18:00 East = 23:00 in UK and 00:00 (midnight) in Eastern Europe (France, Germany, etc...)

The sunday TW would end at 03:00 monday for them (if they last the whole 3 hours)

Also, this is around when school starts again, not sure when it starts in europe but people won't be staying up as long and people will be in school for a good while. So they don't want it to be too early or too late in each region.

Considering that I see a lot of complaints in the near future untill they add the rest of the servers (if they do =p).

Well yes I am in Billing but unfortunately I do not know anything that I can announce to the public just yet. You all will know in due time. My best advice is just to not worry about it and let you know that everyone's suggestions as far as the price of ZEN is being highly considered and discussed amongst my collegues. No matter what anyone else says on these forums, we actually do listen to the players whether we acknowledge it publicly or not. Me personally, I love the suggestions but I think everyone can do it in a more constructive manner ;) rather than just saying things are "stupid" or "****". We always appreciate good ideas!

That's good to hear and yeah people do tend to go a little overboard (including myself).

They really need to open all four servers for OB. I had originally planned to roll on Heaven's Tear (I'm EST), and I really don't want that server to be overcrowded because people want to stay with their beta characters.

Lucky! One of the starting servers is Heaven's Tear! I'll be starting on Heaven's Tear also. If/when they decide to open the "West" server groups, I'll have to start from scratch again. T_T
