Fury was just a pvp game and lacked a lot of vital functions that make the game similar to a bad fps.
Luckily we have carebears on the rescue to save this game ;D!!0 -
I don't think it will close. Lots of countries are IP banned from this version (because they have their own) and the MY version still doesn't have any IP blocks.
Then again, I doubt any of the countries that are IP blocked from this version would go to a more laggy version.
Let's see.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

lol hopfully i was thinking since this game is so popular in where ever it was first released they would use some of that money?0 -
With the release of the North American and European versions this year, MY-EN will have a hard time attracting new players from those areas anymore. In the long run they'll be stuck with mostly malaysian players.
Which is why Cubinet is currently rushing the release of other games to compensate their incoming losses.
Seeing how well the malaysian servers did with little to no advertising, this one should be able to stay online for a long time.Frankieraye said : "we can promise that we will work to improve all facets of community, engineering, and customer service to ensure that something like this doesn't happen again."

The website is closing down in 24 hours. Wow. I've never it before but I saw it on MMORPG.com/mmosite.com/etc.. recently I thought. It closed down really fast.
Fury is also a very specific type of MMO that is mainly action PVP that I guess did not attract enough audience in North America. I heard there were balance issues also.
I doubt this PW will die because of lack of people. It has the support of its parent company in China, and which has like 5 other successful MMOs. SO, don't worry about that, and enjoy the beta when it comes out!

True, and since they set a foot on the continent, they'll likely also translate their other games to increase their revenues.
Future is looking good here.Frankieraye said : "we can promise that we will work to improve all facets of community, engineering, and customer service to ensure that something like this doesn't happen again."

It sucks to see a game fail that way.. even tho I never heard of it hehe :P
& like I said I dont think PWI will have this problem, right?0 -
these guys just need to advertise on more traditional media.
For example TV ads of the features of Perfect World. Pvping flying territory wars the functions of the game etc etc
Its very important in my opinion if they do so0 -
For example TV ads of the features of Perfect World.
It cost a lot of money to produce a good TV ad.
It cost a few tons of money to broadcast a TV ad nationally in the US.Frankieraye said : "we can promise that we will work to improve all facets of community, engineering, and customer service to ensure that something like this doesn't happen again."

I know I know but I was stipulating that since the company is directly backed by the original one they could use previous profits to advertise.
In the end it would be extremely feaseble considering a majority of American/European gamers have no idea this game exists0 -
Iconsidering a majority of American/European gamers have no idea this game exists
The majority of american/european gamers don't watch tv :D
MY-EN performed well even without an inch of pub.
Most important thing to do would be to advertise in gaming magazines and web sites. That's where the bulk of the gamers are. Not on TV.Frankieraye said : "we can promise that we will work to improve all facets of community, engineering, and customer service to ensure that something like this doesn't happen again."

Yeah that actually makes more sense. Even for the fact that magazine advertising shouldn't cost as much as making tv ads. Even websites for example Newgrounds would be a good place to advertise0 -
They should make an ad for EGM. They just started doing MMORPGs, and a ton of people get that magazine.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Yeah, can't always judge the failure or success of a game by another potentially "similar" game. Lot of the time it's the content of the game that draws interest. Especially with MMO's you have to keep things moving and fresh.
By now the things the gaming industry should of learned are:
1.) Quests can not contain the same pattern all the time (Hellgate: London) it starts to get boring and looses interest. Got to mix up what is needed to complete. So were some quests is collection by killing others could be killing to stumble upon a quest, special key interactions (ex: /becon chicken). Along with alluring quest content, maybe even have a little humor in it.
2.) Over specialize and the game draws 1 narrow group of players. A primarily PVP only game will fail, especially if class balances are bad it's like creating a Mudkip (Useless since it counteracts it's own existance sort to speak). It's fine to create a design were a class will always have an innate weakness to another, but you got to make sure that no single class can become unbeatable by all other classes (This sadly is quite difficult because you have to build designs sometimes that even a monkey will understand. This due to those select special gamers that can't figure out ways to compensate for weaknesses).0 -

If you havent noticed, their is not a single F2P MMO thats on a commercial in tv, yes it costs a lot of money, but I think its worth it since every channel has commercials so everyone will see it, while not every webpage has a PWI advertizement, get my point?
sealed~0 -

Calling your bluff. GalapotatonetInc ran a TV ad for Flyff/Rappelz/etc in Cali.
On the original topic, Fury died because it was extremely poorly designed. They made a pure PvP game which:
Had extremely shallow but required collections based gameplay.
That caused vets to be unkillable to novices.
And there is no way to disclude a vet from a "noob" game, nor is there a way to avoid one while ingame (a single vet could literally wipe an eight man team of new players).
So Fury had a mediocre launch, which quickly degenerated into a few dozen hardcore players, whose presence effectively shut all the new players out of the game: join a game, die in three seconds, get spawn camped, ragequit and uninstall.
On top of that, the collections part of the game favored the vet, who was just spawncamping your entire team, to prevent you from getting the gear/skills you needed to challenge him.
Further still, it prevented you from knowing what that gear was. Nothing in the game is catalogued, it's all random. "Buster Drive hits you for infinity dmg." Really? Which class did it come from? What does that skill do? Is it hacks, vet or did he combo up fifty other skills to do that? Who knows. The devs hid almost everything from the player except that the damage happened. You have to go to a FANSITE to figure out which of fifty possible scenarios COULD have caused it, and in the end, there's no way to discount that he could've just been hacking. It was just a recipe for disaster, and the alpha testers called it. They had over a year to fix it, they didn't, their game got shelved by the hardcore community so whenever anybody mentioned it people just sighed and shook their heads. Eventually they fixed several of the issues, but as anyone can tell you, once a game is already so far downhill, it's pointless to try and slow its descent. Just like Tabula Rasa, Space Cowboy, Doofus and Planetside (and soon to include Rohan).[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0
