Here's how to find out if you won't experience lag with PWI

Hi,

let me begin with a little introduction. I am from Germany and have been wanting to play Perfect World since early 2007. Then when PW-MY was finally launching, I played together with a friend, but really, it wasn't fun, and that's just because of the lag we had (our ping was around 380ms). Furthermore, the translation was bad and the version was much older than the chinese client (btw. another very big expansion has been released in early 2008 for Perfect World, which the PW-MY of course doesn't have, too).

I have chosen to begin playing again with Perfect World International, because I loved the game. The atmosphere, music, story etc. was amazing. Btw. if you're wondering why I chose this version over that Perfect World Europe version, just have a close look at both projects... while this one is going to be supported by a company "close to" the developers' company and already looks pretty good (homepage, community, interviews, ...), the other one looks like it will have only few players, probably bad translation and I assume their client will be old and not updated, too. The only thing that could make you chose Perfect World Europe over this one (PWI) is possible lag, and that is why I've started this topic anyway

So you're wondering if you will get good pings with this one if you're living in Europe just like me? Then just do the following things. Open up the command prompt with Start/Run or Win+R and type "cmd". Then in the command prompt type

ping www.perfectworld.com.my

That will give you pings of the existing PW-MY version that we all don't like, do we. It gives me an average ping of 387ms which is exactly what I had ingame when I was still playing that version. Now do

ping www.perfectworld.com/news

(doesn't work without a subsection like "news" for some reason)
That will give you the pings that you can expect with Perfect World International. I am living in Germany and my ping is 29ms which is pretty damn good!

Tell me the pings you get with both tests and don't forget to write down your country! For example:

PW-MY: 387ms
PWI: 29ms

I am wanting to thank the people behind this project, the admins and moderators on here are very nice I am looking forward to play this game and of course already have activated my beta key.

There can still be lag if the servers can't handle the load. Also, pinging this url pings the website not the game servers themselves.

Im sure the website is hosted on the same box or location as the server.

Yeah, of course there still can be lag here and there, but hopefully it'll be all good. Also, if you ping the PW-MY website, then you ping a server at least close to them which is, most importantly, in the same country, and the PWI website is close to the PWI servers or at least it's in the same country, so we European players really can do some guessing there.

for me there is no difference between WLAN and LAN, same 400-600ms ping to MY servers
and pinging pw.com/news doesn't work for me for some reason

Eh I never really lagged in the MY version except for ADCW. It seems that when everyone sets up all their shops it causes lag

Yeah, I get an average of 130 ms when I ping perfectworld.com/news... and 400 ms when I ping perfectworld.com.my. I'm on wireless. If PW International lags for me, then I give up.

shops cause graphic lag - can be solved by getting better hardware
distance to the server/bad routers between you and the server cause connection lag - can not be solved unless you can convice the ISP to chage the way your signal gets routed (good luck with that =_=)

those 2 lag types are not connected in any way.

How do you know the Eu version will suck compared to this? Only because this one is hosted directly by developers ?
Game masters is the same company who host Cabal online in Europe. Is not so bad as a licensor.

My EN : 429 ms
PW INT : 232 ms
PW EU : 62 ms

In my En i have 5-6 sec delay on skills (3-4 sec for activate + 2-3 sec for normal casting). Unplayable. So in PW INT probably i have less lag but still annoy have 1-3 sec delay. PW eu will be surely instant and u know, with delay u can die pretty easy, expecially if u made elf priest with low defence (like me ).
Is of course not fault of admins, is the phisical distance, is impossible avoid this problem, USa is oversea after all.

Mah, dunno, as i mention before, i test both, but i'm pretty sure the eu will be better about lag and skills delay. Also i hope game master and Beijin can collaborate for have the same updates and give us the best experience.

PW Int: 128ms
PW EU: 118ms

It's funny how I live in USA (East/NJ) and ping less on the euro version. I'm guessing the Pw int servers in Cali are a bit too far from where I live =/

The pings you will be getting from our game servers should be substantially less than if you were to ping our website.

There are various reasons for this, the overall reason being that we've optimized the tech behind our game servers to accommodate users of several geographic regions. Just wait till beta starts, then see how your connection is.

This is true, remember the webserver probably isnt given as much fine tuning as the server which will hold thousands of players.

hmm the perfectworld.com/news didnt work for me but on the my i get around 320ms and im from canada, previous poster had around same as me and hes from canada so im happy cause I'll prob have around 60ms here
