Game effects - black and white

Okay heres a really random question but no one seems to be able to answer it for me in my group of friends.

I watch some videos on youtube, and when the player dies the whole screen turns to a black/white effect.

MY screen never does this.

Everyone I talk to has no idea and figure its some option somewhere. But I don't know that I've altered any of those kinds of settings.

Does anyone know where this option is or why some people get this effect and some do not?​​

It does this when you have one of the options set very low. I don't recall offhand which it is.

I remember only ever coming across it on very low settings.​​

It's Soften.

i have everything on max and get the black&white screen still. i dont think you need to turn down something but tun up everything.
Also when i reduce graphics the effect is gone and when i crack up everything again its there again. In TW i usually dont have the effect for obvious reasons but in NW i have it cuz everything is max and in tw its not ​​

It is, switching soften to off won't show it going gray, when turned on it does.​​
