Extreme lag on Tideswell

I just don't understand whats going on with the server... I went from having a ping never higher than 250 (on a really bad day) to a constant 4-10k spike. I'm getting the **** kicked out of me by mobs and they send me mean pm's mainly saying "you just got lag locked nab!" and its hurting my feelings... I think these mobs should get a ban QQ but seriously wtf this is almost ragequit worthy.

I was online all day just fine, depending on where you at the lag is either your internet connection or a node between you and the server.0
-
I have bad internet connections too usually around 3 a.m. at night ends at 4 a.m. I agree with TZoner post the problem could be internet connection. This thead may help some. The only GOP0

Moved this to the Technical Support forum where it belongs.
The lag is not on the server. Read the sticky threads here and we'll help.0 -
I know there is nothing wrong with my connection speed... I have one of the highest connection speeds in the country... (Job requirement) I am located on the east coast... D.C. and Tideswell is a east coast server.... Its obviously not my connection since every other application, game, download run under excellent conditions.0

It's not your connection. It's not PWE's conneciton. It's not the server.
It's the internet between you and PWE.
Different games will take different paths on the internet, so you're comparing apples to oranges. Or comparing taking Highway 59 to reach Waterford to taking 696 to reach Novi.
Seriously, how is it that anyone who reads half these threads, or the informative sticky posts, misses this?
Now take off your tin foil hat, do some reading, and educate yourself on reality. Seriously, it's not rocket science, and there's no magical connection between your ISP and the server. It's a freaking massive freeway of data with many interchanges that can **** things up. You ever get stuck in traffic on the freeway? It's basically the same thing. Or do you blame the place you're going to because you didn't get instantly teleported to their location? (Yes, it's an obvious exaggeration. It's humor. But you guys really seriously need to get over this ignorance about what goes on with the data between your client and the server. It's almost like you're intentionally being dim just so you can complain.)
I'm playing on a **** 12Mbps/1Mbps internet connection because I live in the country, and I've got a more solid connection to Dawnglory than some people living in Europe with a 75Mbps connection. Simply because I'm hitting nodes without high latency or dropped packets between me and the server.
Once you've gotten over that, post some data we can analyze to help you find where your problem is.0 -
i've played around with my 1 problematic connection a bit and found a solution, and actually dropped the latency 20-30 ms in game (for me at least, your results may vary). if you are using an automatically assigned DNS server address, try setting it manually. you can use a program called "DNS Benchmark" (download here: https://www.grc.com/files/DNSBench.exe) to find the fastest DNS address for you to use. you should know what to do with it...and if you're not following as you're reading this, you're probably not one that should boast about your internet connection. to the ones who do understand this, feel free to give a step by step.
@forum mods: please remove the link if i'm not allowed to post links of such sorts please. was just trying to help.0 -
@sylenthunder I don't know why you think you are the only one that understands internet infrastructure; however, if your aim is to assist people with their issues, you should lay off calling someone dim. I understand "nodes" (I laughed... mainly because its a broad term and outdated) quite fine. You really should lose your moderator title for the simple fact that you come off as a ****...(So much for technical support these days... if you were my employee you would be fired) but that's a different issue all together.
@metsassu Yeah I've been playing around with different things which resulted in a somewhat manageable play setting. Anyways thanks for the advice I already know how to benchmark but I am sure that would help someone else down the road.
Thanks again for the insults and advice given... you may close this thread0 -
Since when has "nodes" ever been an outdated term? It's the most accurate word to describe the vague and complex systems within (unless you want to go over a majority of non-networking educated people's heads). I was seriously just in a class to refresh myself a year ago and the term nodes is still used in networking classes. In fact, if there ever was an outdated term, it would be "gateway;" which can be found in much older books along with "hubs."theredsand wrote: »I don't know why you think you are the only one that understands internet infrastructureGAME FORUMS (Direct Link & Arc Frame)Forum Enhancements and Visual Improvements(Greasemonkey/Tampermonkey and/or Stylish required)PWI vBulletin Forum Data Dumps and Backups0

I have made it pretty clear why I believe the majority of posters don't understand internet infrastructure. My analogies in exaggeration (intended to be funny, and not insulting, and I did state as much) are partially meant to blow it out of proportion, while at the same time giving an apples-apples comparison so the people who are completely ignorant on how the internet works will get a clue.
Did you read any of the 20 other threads on a similar issue that have been posted just in the last week?
Did you read the stickys?
If you actually understand the way the internet functions, (as you said, you understand nodes), then why did you start a thread blaming the server for what would not be a server issue?
You also haven't provided any information requested for anyone to be able to help you. Which just lumps you up into the people who sit and QQ without bothering to attempt to fix their issue.
Quite personally, if you would take a small amount of time and effort to research it, realise reality, and attempt to better your situation, you would not be that dim at all. To do the opposite however...
I'm not going to sit and sugar coat it for you.
The information you need for help is here and stickied to make it easy for you to find. The instructions are readily available for you to educate yourself to help yourself out. If that doesn't work, instructions on how to give those of us that can help what we need to do so is equally available.
Failure to utilize it is your shortcoming, not mine.
Closing per your request. If you want help, start a new thread with helpful information instead of whining about the server.0
