We totally hear you on that. A rollback was one of the options we considered for the Nightmares, but please keep in mind that Caturday was a major, major issue with a huge influx of ill-gotten Astral Diamonds. If we did not take the servers down and roll back then, it would have collapsed the Astral Diamonds economy. And, Caturday resulted in a day (if I recall correctly) of downtime.
We had to weigh that option carefully versus our other choices. Ultimately, we decided that addressing the issue immediately was the most important. We felt that any player who was lucky enough to unlock a Nightmare mount because of something that was on us this morning should be able to keep it.
This isn't something we decided on a whim. These decisions are very difficult to make and many factors are involved from players to the devs. And, please remember that we make them with only the community and players' best interest in mind. Hopefully, that clarifies some things for you.
I'm glad that all these "tough" decisions made by developers are to screw over half the game's population each time. Every poor decision these guys make is a nice way of saying tough luck to all the good paying customers you have. I understand it takes a lot of manage developing a game but in terms of unfair gameplay, this game ranks among the worst I've ever had the displeasure of experience. It ranks second only to a company that I paid money for in game items that were charged multiple times that I never received. When asked to provide compensation, every support representative justs redirects me to another representative's office. I had high hopes for this game but if the dev team doesn't take these complaints and such seriously, it may not be the kind of game I would ever consider spending a single dollar on or possibly ever playing again.
I'm not saying to take away the mounts and say tough luck to those who stumbled upon one as well, but find another method to compensate those who were adversely affected by the situation.
PS I've posted angry comments on a different forum about having to throw away my Stalwart Bulwark armor set as well. The moderator was nice enough to tell me I could at least respec everything for free.
all I got from you're banter is lolz. are you laughing at us? I personally will keep *****ing about the nightmare exploit for years. I will tally up everything people hates about how management deals with exploits, just to badpress you. and if this doesn't help get me banned...therefore preventing me from spending more money ( already have wasted over 4k in US dollars), then you guys truly don't care. btw, recently read a game review. Neverwinter scored a 6 out of 10, but was proclaimed to not have any future beyond its dull design. you did get kudos for the Foundry, but Neverwinter Nights 2 it's not. *tosses lolz back atchoo*

What you're saying is basically: "We weighed all the options, and determined that putting the server on a down time would result in half a day's loss profit on all those excited little customers that we do not sincerely care about, we want to milk these as much as possible. Putting the server on hours of downtime just to reverse this mistake during one of our most high peak earning period, are u even kidding me?"
I read it. There are 36 pages of unhappy customers responding to the statement, of which I am one of.
He's right you know. If you're not going to roll back the unfair lockbox mounts (and I can understand a lot of people would be unhappy with that) then really the people who've spent good cash on opening lockboxes (fairly) deserve to get a little something extra. Why not award a mount to everyone who has paid to open (say) a minimum of 10 lockboxes?

That only clarifies whoever made that call needs escorted out the door and someone with an understanding of customer service towards your customers installed in their place. Not only that you have proven you intend to reward exploiters and so now there will only be more of them. As it is the influx of nightmares totally wrecked the value of them for quite some time. at best they are now worth 750k this afternoon after you brought the servers back up I saw some as low as 250k. Keep in mind every action you take gets around because your players talk. I can't speak for everyone else, but at the moment I'm inclined to tell my friends that ask about this game that it is poorly run, that the devs and admins don't give a **** about the community and not to bother with anything cryptic or pwe touch. I'm pretty sure that's not the kind of word of mouth advertising you want...

Well, it clarifies some things for me:
1) Exploiters win
2) Everyone else loses
I'm curious, is there anyone in your organization yet who realizes just how much this ridiculously bad decision is going to cost PWE in lost revenue? I can crunch those numbers for you if you're all too busy with figuring out more ways to ruin the game ....

While I understand this point of view, I disagree with the implied perception of the effect on the community. There were several months worth of people buying zen which went towards keys to use gambling for a horse in a game. Suddenly, out of nowhere, the odds changed with little warning except to the people who discovered it on the test server (and thus were in a strong position to exploit this if they so chose). Then, once everyone caught on, many people who had (in some cases) put hundreds of dollars into the game had all of that effort and money effectively wasted because they had already gambled on a bad bet.
I admit, I only have a little pity for the people that lost out, since it was a gamble, but I do feel that every single person who bought and used enchanted keys prior to this morning's incident was retroactively wronged by this decision to let the clear and obvious exploitation to go without even a stern warning, much less an actual action on their accounts.
imo, everyone who used keys during the time in question should, in the very least, have everything they got out of those boxes removed, and every key returned to them along with one unopened box per key. a lot of work? yes, but I think it's the right thing to do.
During the Caturday event, a catastrophic bug of similar proportions was missed, but Cryptic FIXED it. They rolled back the servers, they compensated EVERY SINGLE PLAYER.
I have this Caturday cloak from my character I just made and never got past level 5 or something, not playing the game, then come back and see it so I have no idea what the cloak references.

I understand it was a difficult decision. How difficult was the decision to delete threads in the general forum that referenced the issue. I'm more agitated by the way you tried to obscure the facts about what happened than the people who got a number of mounts free.
Additionally, I have no problem with everyone who received a nightmare mount this morning keeping ONE. The big issue here which you are failing to acknowledge is that many people have stockpiled a large number of nightmare mounts. If you know the overall number and in the grand scheme of things its impact on the game will be minimal, then why are you going to such lengths to delete threads and hide the information?
That is my problem with this whole thing. I've never purchased a single key or opened a single lock box. However, I have spent money on zen and bought a $25 acct wide epic mount. My issue is primarily with the way support staff reacted to the incident and then attempted to sweep it under the rug.
Honesty and transparency goes a long way to gaining peoples trust. Deception and obfuscation go a very long way in losing that trust. I'm sad to say my faith in your ability to fairly manage the game and community has been shaken.
Surely you can understand the anger involved when a rival you were working so hard to outpace has just received a handful of nightmare mounts through no real work of his own? The drive to be the best you can be is greatly diminished. However, given an appropriate response from the developers and potentially some small token of appreciation can mitigate those feelings almost entirely.
I'm sure your hands are tied with what options you have available at this moment. At the very least please make an new thread, sticky it, and explain what you just said in the post I quoted. A lot of people may never see it and while I am still upset it has subsided somewhat.
Just please be honest with us. The initial knee jerk reaction from many will be anger. With open honest communication rational thought soon takes over and life goes on. When you delete threads and do everything possible to prevent people from learning of the issue it causes animosity and breeds mistrust.
I know your job is hard and you would likely rather be doing something other than working at this time of night. I just got off work myself, yet I have taken the time to write this post to you, cmpinpointterror, because of how important this issue is to me.

Not taking action because of the "players' best interest in mind"? Sounds more like not taking action because it was in the companies best interest. Sorry, I have had very little to complain about with this game but this one has myself and a majority of the community in a frenzy. It's sad to see such alienation of your customers taking place. Sadly, you'll not see my wallet opening to support this game further, I am actually sad I spent some much on keys as is because I didn't mind spending it so as to "support" the game but it's growing apparent that that doesn't matter. As Ranncore aptly put it, "make it right."
CN final boss has one if its attacks bugged. When it does the ray thing sometimes someone well outside of the danger zone gets hit by it and dies. Seems to happen at random.
Not to mention they changed the boss and made it harder. Good luck to anyone who isn't using repel for "genuine experience".
Sun Elves will be a playable race for all players for free WTF i pay RL mony to play the RAce befor all. not just one 1day. WTF are you doing. Wel this is just one mroe way to loss alot of player on. but what do you care Nw. you like all to use exploite
Since when paying real money got you to play the SUN elves before anyone else?
I got no warning on dragon, none. zero. nada.
better check that code again. also...

well I have been playing from the start or as soon as I could log into the game when they had issues with the ah everyone was compensated now there was a issue with the nightmare mounts I believe that they should once again compensate every player with a 110 mount speed mount or remove the ones that got the mounts from the lockboxes during the problem with the launch of feywild as I have two mounts that I had gotten way before the launch of feywild and the unicorn mount now but still the issue is this the paying customers are angry that things are not fair so they must balance the playing field once again and the only way I can see it being balance again is to remove the mounts the player received from the lockbox being exploited or giving everyone the same mount

They SHOULD HAVE, while the servers were down this morning, made the Nightmares Bind on Account to prevent people from selling all the extra exploited ones. I know someone that 14 of them. 14!!
You know, not everyone lives on the forums for every minute of the day.
I launched the game over an hour ago with Arc and NOT ONE WORD OF THIS PATCH WAS ON ARC OR THE LAUNCHER!
I was near completion of a Foundry mission when BAM disconnect!
So I wasn't the only one. Was almost done a foundry mission as well and got disconnected WITHOUT any warning in the game. That show how 'unprofessional' the people who manage the game are. Oh well, game is free so no biggie. Once done and move on.

This was definitely an emergency downtime to address some in-game issues. Sorry about that!
