Official - Refinement Information

Since the other thread is very long and it can be difficult to find responses in all of those posts, I thought I'd make a thread that will get updated with responses to feedback/questions all in one place. The other thread is still where the discussion will continue to happen.

For anyone new to the topic, make sure to at least read the initial post in the other thread before reading this one.

*There has been some confusion on if enchantments expire. Only the temporary enchantments that show up when you first log in are temporary and they last for 7 days from when you get them. The rest of the new enchantments are permanent.

*Rank 8 and 9 enchants. There has been a lot of discussion on why aren't those allowed to be exchanged. Their value is so much lower than the other enchantments that even if we made an exchange for them it would require a lot of them to get a new enchant in order to respect the value of the higher rank enchants on live.

A lot of the feedback suggested these lower ranks enchantment concerns were in large part a concern about alts. While the new enchants are unbound and have no unslot cost which allows them to be shared across the account, that can be tedious when running many alts. A change coming will be to allow rank 5 enchants to be exchanged for an account wide unlock version. The account wide unlock won't be able to be sold for gold, refined for RP, or traded/auctioned. The reason it is only rank 5 for now is the complexity of account bound ones upgrading and unlocking other account bound ranks which there isn't a good system for.

Another aspect brought up was the Illusions and rank 8/9 weapon/armor enchants. We will look into making an exchange for those for illusions so people can make sure to still have their visuals.

*No existing content is changing in difficulty or item level with these changes. There were some concerns raised that the new refinement meant the game was being changed all over. All of the existing content is staying the same and the new content is designed with the current on live progression in mind, not any of the new ranks/item level of enchantments.

*Marks of Potency. A big topic was an exchange for those items. Another concern raised in the thread is also why aren't we doing more about the ZAX backlog. Giving bonus AD out to everyone for existing MoPs, especially ones bought on sale and with VIP discounts would only make all of that worse. But we will add an exchange for MoPs Rank 4-7 which will give back 60% of the Wondrous Bazaar cost of the items.

*Combined rating. There were some posts about making everything that gives item level give combined rating equal to item level. That's not how the rating system works. Item level is split across the effects of a given item. So if it was giving 100% of item level as combined rating, that is all that would be on the item. Damage increases, other stats, are things that item level gets assigned to. It has always been the intention of the current combat system to make it challenging to max many stats at once and therefore to have a variety of options on how to build out your characters.

*Variety of Combat enchants. 6 is the planned number to start with, but we will almost certainly add more over time.

*There were a couple of posts about how we should make the exchange give bound to account enchants. In the past with exchanges there was always lots of feedback that was the opposite which was to make exchanges give unbound, including previous enchantment exchanges. So this time we made a setup that would work well with unbound to try out that approach.
