I haven't played in months, decided to come back and when I try to create a new character the game locks up and has to be closed out in Task Manager. This happens if I his esc to skip the opening cinematic or if I let it play out. I an unable to get to the character creator, but I can play my old character just fine.

This is similar to an issue I have with Star Trek Online with a certain cinematic that came out with their latest expansion, Delta Rising, where the game locks up and has to be closed out after viewing or skipping the cinematic when a character first goes to the Delta Quadrant, but with that, once I close the game and relaunch, the character loads into the new zone correctly and I can play again.

So after dealing with this for months i finally found a solution. PWE offered no real solution so i found this through searches of other PWE games

First thing you want to do is login to the game and get to the character select screen.

Second go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Neverwinter_en/Neverwinter/Live (Is what it looks like for me) Find that folder . Open it and click on the neverwinter folder inside.

Third click on the live folder and look for a file named binkw32.dll

Fourth Rename binkw32.dll to something else.

Fifth once renamed close where you just changed the name, Now go back to the character screen and select new character. it bypasses the intro video.

Note: You want your game open and on the character select screen while doing this. If you close the game to do this the launcher will just rename the file name back to the original and this will not work.

Edit: I can also confirm it gets rid of the splash screen once you cross the bridge after the initial character creation. Your going to want to make your toon and then do the tutorial before leaving the game or you will have to rename the file again. Confirmed work around. The only true fix for this is get a newer pc. Only people i have seen with this issue like myself have older pcs with outdated graphics cards.
