Swashbuckler Companion Active Bonus Question

I ended up getting the Companion drop on this most recent CTA, and I had a question about the active companion bonus.
The active bonus is getting additional +200 crit strike chance whenever you're hit with a crit. (LOL... I make another funny.)
My question is -> Do regular enemies/bosses actually hit you with criticals? I know we can see our crit damage in oranges denoting crits from yellow regular damage. But do enemies actually crit hit you to activate this bonus?
I bound her to my Orc Guardian Fighter, figured he gets hit enough that he could make decent use of the ability... unless the skill doesn't activate because they don't crit. In which case, she's gonna be a meatshield, just like me.
