Mad Dragon

Am I right in thinking the way to kill this is to make sure the adds get killed quickly?

Queued up last night and could tell from the queue that they were failing at the last boss since the queue always came up as 4/5. Reluctantly joined as I need the T1 head to find my fears realised. We're at the dragon.

Was my first time doing that boss so didn't really know what to expect and of course we wiped horribly. It became pretty obvious to me after that first attempt that add-control is key. The imps and demons weren't too bad; I could dodge-kite those around and even kill them to a certain extent, but the 4 melee dudes were too much. They always seemed to hone in on me and then I spent too much of my time trying to kiting them and keep myself alive than focussing on anyone else.

I did try to tell the group to kill the adds, but it never really worked, so I left them after the 6th or 7th wipe.

I was thinking that a Cleric might make a decent tank for those adds. With Shield, Glow and Bastion, I can keep myself up for a while whilst an AoE-er DPS's them down. Is that a decent tactic?

The adds definitely have to be burned down. Fast. If nobody else helps you do that, I guess they don't want to beat the dragon.

I'm a HUGE believer in astral shield. But I usually ran that with bastion, chains and daunting light. In a "typical" mad dragon final boss fight nobody stays in one place long enough to benefit from shield, and I usually had to help get rid of the adds quickly while throwing out heals in between.

That fight requires teamwork no matter what. In most cases everyone spreads out and tries to burn the dragon. Then they get overwhelmed by adds, run around like mad, and finally go down because they can't move out of red with more than a couple of imps on them. Kick the healer and wait around for a "better" one. In the best scenario, one person aggros the dragon while everyone stays on the same side of the dragon dealing with adds and burning the dragon in between. I've seen everyone do this and it works beautifully. That's what happens when you're lucky and get with a group that has a clue.

My GT is Go Pony Go, I have a level 60 cleric, but a level 60 CW as well. Let me know if you need help with Mad Dragon and I'll be happy to run it with you. I remember how frustrating it is as a healer.

Thanks. Watched a couple of you tube videos and have a better idea now. I saw one group where the healer hardly had to move at all and could lay down shield pretty much constantly. Key was the tank keeping the dragon near the wall, facing in one direction to limit the amount of red in the rest of the area.

Killed it last night, thanks to a very good GWF, two TRs and an iffy HR. Not an ideal group, but we got him.

When did they change the fight? Or has it always been this way on Xbox? From what I read / watched, at 30% you're supposed to get a big demon appear. We didn't - we got another wave of the 4 melee adds.
