I'm a fairly new DC (my main is a CW), my DC is level 31 now. I use my DC mainly for dungeons and skirmishes. Was running some skirmishes last night and was struggling with the healing. I just kept losing everyone! They were running all over the place and as much as I tried to keep them alive they were dying - yes, part of this is down to them running in different directions and standing in the red - I know we can't heal stupidity. However, I feel like I could have been doing a better job healing. Best I could do was throw Astral Seal at anything and everything.
I was also coming last in damage as I was so busy trying to heal everyone and keep myself alive.
What skills should I be using for healing at level 30ish? Really not getting the divinity thing / empowered thing either. Will read more on this later.
Basically just trying to get some tips on running a cleric.
I'm not sure there's a lot you can do at your level. At level 30 you have Astral Seal, Sun Burst (not much use if your party is dispersed), Healing Word (difficult to target) and Divine Searing Light which can heal people.
Do read up on Divinity and Empowered spells. Everything you cast in Divine mode is instant, and the mechanic for searing light is that it AoE heals around your target. So if you have 3 stacks of divinity built up, you can cast Searing Light on 3 different mobs in 3 different places and generate an AoE heal around each mob, thus healing 3 different people in 3 different locations.
Really your best bet is to get to lvl 35 as quickly as possible, cos then you get Bastion of Health, and then get to 45 as quickly as possible, cos then you get Divine Glow. And then you'll end up with feats that also do passive healing.
In my experience, you're not really a healer at low levels, you're just another DPS class.
Thanks for the reply, at least I can stop feeling like I was being totally rubbish, running round like a headless chicken trying to keep everyone healed. Think I'll just stick to throwing astral seal at anything and everything until I have levelled up some more.
Will try and sort the Divinity and Empowered thing out, it's just difficult to remember what each thing does. I think I'm just trying to play my DC as i would my CW and it's not really working.
Rule of thumb:
Divinity == Instant cast, different spell mechanic
Empowered == Normal cast, normal spell mechanic. MUCH more powerful (more damage, wider radius, bigger buff/debuff etc.)
e.g. Divine Healing Word doesn't actually heal. It grants temp hit points. Whereas Empowered Healing Word gives a massive heal (relatively speaking).
Tip from a Anointed Champion DC: Your healing and damage are fairly balanced in levels 10 - 40, which is meant for solo play. As another has stated, LvL 35 is BoH (Bastion of Health) which is AWESOME, especially in Divinity. As of lvl 60, I use only these in Dungeons: BoH, Astrial Shield, Divine Glow as encounters and Astrial SEAL as my only needed at-will. Astrial SEAL is basically lifesteal for all..it ROCKS, and also heals you at the same time. With this setup, I am averaging 100k + healing every 10 to 12 seconds (as a lvl 70). Make sure you choose the FEATS that work best for your style of play and what you want out of the DC. I built mine to be a PURE healer and only use her in Dungeons, but can solo due to taking very little damage, as I regen 80k HP in secs. Ask your guild mates for help, OR..join my Guild and I will help you build a (ALMOST) unkillable DC. Unstable Viking@veryunstable (Forgotten Thieves)
