No but seriously, who the hell thought platform jumping was a good idea in a game where box detection seems flawed and lag can strike at any time? The lava jumps with the fireballs? I just quit out now - no use making my PUG wait for me for 10 minutes. Yes, yes, surely I suck at the game and all that. I'd like to claim its a flaw in my toons design (seriously, can I turn sprint off so my guy doesn't think its a great idea to just run into the lava and ignore my jump command?) but I realize it's likely my timing to.
But really, I got over jumping lava pits and dodging fireballs when I was 7 and playing Mario on the NES. In a game that was at least designed for platform jumping!
Sigh, I guess it wouldn't bother me if at least I knew I'd have a fair chance at pulling some good loot...
Okay, I feel better now for venting. Agree or disagree, go...
There are a lot of people that will say as always oh stop moaning and enjoy the dam game, but I'm trying to enjoy it mate but the problems this game has are doing everything to tell me that's not enough! I just guess those people are not used to serious gamers! I think RPG lovers like me and many here deserve a serious game not a silly one.
This is my favorite part of the game so far. It doesn't happen very often, but every once in a while I reach that door to the Scorpions fight and turn around to see some poor soul struggling with the jumping ~500 yards back. It is so very entertaining and amusing to watch their name get closer and closer as their health-bar gets smaller and smaller and then *BAM* they die, and *POOF* back they go to the beginning. So far I've only seen three people rage-quit due to being unable to join us at that Scorpion's gate. Two GWFs and a CW gave up and went home, utterly defeated by the 'fireball boss'.
I've had the added pleasure of seeing not one, not two, but THREE threads on these forums raging about how this is not a platformer and Lair of Lostmauth is horrible because of the obstacle-course section. I always have no issues whatsoever making it past this section and tend to not even think about it when I think of Lostmauth but these threads serve as wonderful reminders about how severely some people struggle with it.
Sorry I know that comes off as mean-spirited. I really do sympathize with your struggles. The lag in this game alone is a good reason to avoid incorporating platformer elements (though LoL was designed for PC originally long ago and was just ported to this platform). I hope things get better for you, I just find this particular gripe entertaining because it seems like such small potatoes even though I realize for some people it is incredibly frustrating. :-P
Alas, I'm trying to be tongue in cheek about the whole thing but I won't lie it is frustrating. If it just ain't working for me, I'll back out so as not to hold up the group. I legit rage quit the first time and felt really silly. But then rage again, much rage lol. I suppose I did want to play a 3.5 Barbarian so I'm getting what I asked for ha!
But really, that lag tho. I laugh because I'm sure with my alts its likely not a problem since you can do the jump shift deal. GWFs have no such luxury. You're fighting not only the level but your toons tendency to "fly off the handle" and sprint straight into the lava. Your response definitely made me chuckle back, so thanks!
I'm so glad I don't really suffer from the major lag issues. The game rarely slows down for me (even when fighting dragons), and the random pauses only seem to happen within the first 10 minutes of loading up the game (first encounter). I do get the disconnection thing everyone has seen, but (thankfully) I escaped the lag. Because of this, the platforming portions of LoL aren't too bad, but I can see how it would be quite frustrating if you're one of the people struggling through lag issues.
As a side note, the final boss fight is the section of LoL that makes me rage. No, not because it's hard -- it just might be the easiest encounter in any dungeon -- but because so many people can't seem to figure out not to stand in the molten gold, red circles, or breath path... not to mention the people getting knocked out by fireballs because they're standing too far away from the Lostmauth. The whole dungeon should take 30 minutes or less, so my rage boils over when I end up eating dozens of potions and injury kits fighting a boss for longer than it took to get to him. I'm convinced having to deal with so many people who apparently are unable to detect obvious patterns in the fight is why they named the dungeon "lol".
Quick question... nearly on topic... I've not done LoL yet, how much jumping is actually involved. I am very bad at jumping in any video game, not sure why, I just can't do the jumping bits in any game I have come across. Should I even bother with this dungeon?

Yes. Bother. These complaints over-exaggerate it. It's a very small inconsequential part of the dungeon and only 1 of the 3 randomly chosen paths involves jumping.

Yeah Bunny, definitely try it. As wanderingkyng says, I definitely over-exaggerated a bit to get my point across. A large part of the problem is also my class mechanic and how I personally am not able to adjust for it (although I've heard other GWF's complain about the mechanic Sprint as well when it comes to jumping).
ELoL has some of the best gear in the game, so it is not worth passing up on unless it is too frustrating to be worth your time. As wanderingkyng also mentioned, two of the paths are easier than others but all require jumping at the end where the three paths link up. Luckily those jumps are a little easier for my character as they are horizontal jumps rather than vertical. Apparently my GWF has Woody Harrelson's vertical from White Men Can't Jump lol.

But yes, dungeons are hardly worth running. Almost have to do them 5-10 times a day for anything worth anything....
