Well we don't have it yet so, not soon enough From what I understand, the dev team is focusing on adding more content to the game (giving us the rest of the modules) and not really working on the Gateway at all. (Source: Neverwinter Twitter reply)

I would be surprised if we ever get a gateway similar to PC. I just can't see Microsoft allowing access to game files from outside the Xbox environment and if we have to access the gateway from the Xbox much of its advantages would be reduced.
Last I heard, the streaming was only to devices on the same network as the Xbox. If you know something different, I would love to see it.
accessing files from a PC via a LAN is outside of the Xbox environment. Anything that isn't the local machine is outside of the local machine's environment. Also, unless I"m missing something, NW is still on Cryptic servers. Correct me if I'm mistaken here but typically Xbox Live is just the means of communication. Not the actual server machines that the game is hosted on. So "M$" (that makes me laugh every time... sorry) can't exactly block developer's from giving file access to who ever they want to. It is their servers after all.
To further my point as to why it's fully possible and Cryptic is just dragging their heels here, how many Xbox games have websites that access in game info? How many cell phone apps access game info? There's tons of them out there but just to name a few, Destiny, Assassin's Creed (all of them), Far Cry 4, Halo MCC, etc etc etc. Point being, they aren't Microsoft's files, Microsoft has no reason to (or legal right to) deny access.
I don't know when if we will ever see a Xbox Gateway app, I likely suspect that we won't. But it has little to do with file access and more to do with botting, scripts, and "cheating" IMO. Which is a shame cause it's a phenomenal way to keep folks' minds focused on and thinking about thier product even when those folks can't actually play the game. Keeping the game relevant in a consumer's mind ensures it's longevity and also the pliability of a consumer's... "assetrs" (more likely to spend money if thinking about it more often).

I'm not sure how similar it is, but currently the Destiny companion app lets you move items around in your inventory and between characters from your smart phone. I would think that means it isn't unprecedented.

The Gateway is much more complex. It has its own dice game you play with your companions with random login rewards(Sword Coast Adventures), access to your inventory, access to professions (including the ability to purchase supplies from the profession vendor remotely and collect and start tasks), The auction house (bid, list, everything), the astral diamond exchange, the Zen store, guild, and mail (but as always cannot collect items except at a box). So, you can spend gold, AD, Zen, increase companion XP (the game) and gain new items.
I'm not at all familiar with all the apps listed, but do any of them allow for spending of ingame currency or real world money remotely? Or advancing the progress of characters/companions?
I'd love it...
But I do like that it provides a roadblock to alt-profession mining, which will be helping keep inflation in check.

Mortal Combat X has basically the exact same thing and Destiny has it's app that covers other things so I'd say it's entirely possible to do.
I'm sitting at my PC at work, and instead of setting my crafting or looking through the AH I'm responding to this post. So yes, this needs to happen. Wicher 3 is out, and ESO is next month. Gateway would go a long way of keeping me interested in this game with the stiff competition.
