When there are people actively avoiding dungeons -- who have been actively avoiding dungeons in the two years the game has been out -- maybe it's time to stop looking at the devs and start looking at the player base as to why people are leaving. There a small (I hope it's small, anyway) but extremely vocal group of players who have made it very clear that people who don't mind dying a couple times while playing a dungeon (adds to my adrenaline rush when we beat it, personally), or who take longer than five minutes to run one. And I have not encountered a single guild that doesn't have at least two of that group in it; "just find a guild" has not been a solution here. Threads about why T2 gear shouldn't drop? Threads about playing a dungeon ... as long as you're geared whatever is deemed "properly"? What even?
Are all MMOs like this? Neverwinter is, so far, my first and only one. I love playing my main toon, and I can mostly play her solo (or with a GF/DC/CW/HR if my gaming partner ever has internet again...), which is just enough to keep this casual player going.
There's a significant part of the community that refuses to adapt, use new builds, new rotations, and play the game the way it's meant to be played (don't stand in red, CC minions, heal people, kill stuff).
Yes most MMOs are very similiar to eachother per genre and per payment model. And the community and the discussions that follow are similar enough because of the common elements.
I still believe this MMO has the potential to be one of the better F2P MMORPGs; but its taking too much polishing to shine thru.

If you are seeking other players to party with who don't exploit then consider joining the NW_Legit_Community! NW_Legit_Community now boasts over 6.2k members with, on average, 450 members online at any one time.

I can honestly say that as a member of this community I have been able to complete content that I otherwise would never have attempted. Great group of guys/gals in this channel that are willing to answer questions and will be patient enough to help people learn.

There are certain basic concepts of playing the game that players will discover as they first experience the game itself. These involve the basic operation of the interface, interaction with the environment, discovering how your character's abilities function, etc. Everything else you see in this forum, in game chat, and such are individual opinions on how they interpret the challenges presented in the game. Many express such opinions with varying levels of courtesy and aplomb and represent such opinions with a certain level of authority that may or may not actually exist.
What you take away from these opinions is up to your individual style of play, and most importantly how you have fun. The most important thing for all of us is fun, after all, why spend so much time doing this if we aren't obtaining entertainment value. This also ties into the concept of guilds. The ideal is to find like minded individuals with whom you can share collaborative entertainment.
As to the question, all MMOs share certain basic characteristics varying only in the theme, interactions, goals, and internal mechanics.
Hey Crypyic and Perfect World! Thanks for the lag less play today thus far today. I think you have earned that. The best I have played in days. Even when OP and DC use lag skills, I dont have lag. Love It
My only issue is after learning to play my character for a year and enjoying it, whose idea was it to start making players CHANGE the way they play? Thats like making Tony hawk players switch from skateboards to bikes, why would you do that? Why keep making players ADJUST the way they spec or play? We like the game, we enjoy playing it the way we play. Why make it unenjoyable for some? Not a smart way to retain your customers

I will never understand mmo game dev's. Why do they come up with updates like mod 6. Game devs really need to stop getting advice from the people that spend more time on the forums complaining that the games to easy. They never think about those players that play the game instead of spending most of their time posting on the board.
You'd think it was glaringly obvious by now - all the more so as the staff has straight-up said as much - that an awful lot of Mod 6 ain't exactly WAI in its current shape.
Even when OP and DC use lag skills, I dont have lag. Love It
What is wrong with this statement? LOL
@OP: This is generally a good community. People are passionate and they care about the game deeply. However there also are some real trolls in these forums, and some who actually think their perspectives are superior than others' and so on. The thing is the largest group of friendliest players never come into the forums at all.
A few of the suggestions above are well-founded ones and may or may not benefit you and what you're looking for.
The primary goal to always keep in mind is this: ensure you are entertained, be careful to always have fun. If you ever become "stressed" or "upset" or "frustrated" with any part of this game, these forums, other players, the Devs, company policies or any of that - then you need to stop, take a deep breath, and reevaluate your life priorities. This is a game for goodness sakes. It's just entertainment.
Rule #1 that should always be first and foremost: do not take this game or anything related to it in any way, including and especially other players, too seriously.
Once you take that to heart and learn to chuckle, sometimes even laugh outright at some of what you see here: you'll be in a good way.

Change usually means expanding into new areas, new expanded content, and the satisfaction of having more control over older content and progressing..
NOT hamster-wheeling old areas (thereby cheapening your advance in power) and restricting access to content. In fact mod 6 is the only update in ANY game ive ever played where old content was actually deleted.
It seems mod 6 was mostly an ezmode attempt to make a mod with out producing anything new at all (other than the elemental map).
IMHO&XP this community is neither better nor worse than most other game's community.
Every game I've forumed in so far had the people constantly posting "this is too hard", "nerf this or that", those lobbying for more restrictions, people lobbying for more rewards, people lobbying for their fav class/ship/plane... ...and the resulting discussions are per se controversial, and as we all know that can derail.
And re. the gameplay: I'll just quote the memo from Scott Shicoff: "Neverwinter is a living game that will continue to grow and evolve. The whole team will continue to listen to the community, and strive to make improvements to the game we all love. Please keep providing feedback and let us know what you think is important. Thank you once again for your feedback and support!"
So basically & summed up: Some whining background noise level is everywhere. Some of is unfounded. Some is founded in self-chosen limitations players impose on themselves (like avoiding dungeons, not everyone is in it for the adrenaline rush...), which they perfectly are at liberty to do. The other side asking for more challenge has a justified desire, too. But when suddenly the rules of the game are completely changed or reset, and the whining level increases massively, then the probability of its justification is high. Our new dev lead has looked at it, taken it up without prejudice hopefully, and acted on it in a somewhat timely manner.
Good idea.
However, taking a game that for me - and IMHO many others - has had a strong point in the bandwith of options, which had been my way to find challenge, and making that into a streamlined HiPower grind-o-rama that doesn't allow playing more than one or maybe two chars... ...doesn't go down so well, especially without some middle ground or transition phase. So some steps backwards are a sensible decision.
