The Jewelcrafting Auction House Mafia

cadgeduendecadgeduende Member Posts: 5 Arc User
The title of this post is tongue-in-cheek, but the curiosity behind it is very sincere. I have noticed something over the last week or so that I would like to get some feedback on. I'm certain what I've noticed is nothing new to the MMO world(I'm a newb) but it's new to me and others I have talked with as well. I've pointed it out to friends and we've scratched our heads, wondering.

What I've noticed is this: the disparity between the items available in the jewelcrafting profession and the prices placed on the items by the sellers. Right now I'm looking at my tv screen at the uncommon jewelcrafting items for sale. There are four of them. Jewelcrafters. Green. Lowest starting bid is 100k and the cheapest buyout is 375k AD. These prices are very low compared to what they were just yesterday when the auctions timed out. I wish I would have screencapped it because the lowest starting bid was 799k if I remember correctly with a buyout of a million two...

I just want to say that I am in no way hating on these people, nor am I ranting. If I'm whining I am not trying to and any feedback will be considered constructive criticism. I'm just so effing curious to know what's going on. My theory is that four friends have gotten together and cornered the jewelcrafting market. By buying up any and all assets that come onto the auction house and reposting them at exorbitant prices they've essentially cornered the market, dissuading any potential jewelcrafters from getting in on their profit. Is this correct, are there end-game benefits to the JC profession which would encourage people to do this? I mean, are there certain items so valuable at level 20 crafting that would cause people to try and corner a market or is my thinking completely off here?

I'm ready to be wrong. It may simply be that one person set a greedy price and others followed suit, I dunno. It seems a waste of AD, with a posting fee between 6-10k at those rates. A waste because I cannot imagine anyone buying a green jewelcrafter for that price. Have I mentioned that there are no other assets for sale? Only common assets are for sale. No epics or legendary. I think people are too afraid to post, either thinking by that posting an item they will be losing out or that they will be losing AD because of said posting fee.

I've written in-game to the four Dons of the Auction House, explaining my curiosity and desire to get an insiders opinion on the high prices. I was courteous and hope they took me that way. Again I'm not hating in any way, am all for capitalism/murica et cetera...but ******* I'm dying to know what the hell is going on. The rest of the auction house is business as usual. It's just here in jewelcrafting there's such a divide.

Please, experienced MMO gamers tell me what the hell's going on with this. Set me straight or confirm my suspicions. Thanks for reading.

Edit: I feel dumb. Apparently jewelcrafting is broken, with no items coming from boxes. This would explain the high prices and I feel like I should have done a little research here on the forum before posting my big ideas. Was going to delete this post but eh, maybe someone had similar questions and this may answer them...
If these are the last days, then we are the first to be the last.

On top of what you've noticed:
    * I'm pretty sure jewelcrafting can get you best-in-slot rings and necklaces.
    * Buying out items under cutting you and re-listing isn't an uncommon trick. For example, if there is a sword where most bids are at 100K plus, and there are two swords priced at 50k, it wouldn't be silly to grab to two cheap ones and then re-list them all at 90k.

Since there are no jewelery items in professions pack, those few assets you are seeing are testament to the very very very rare chance that when upgrading 4 rank 2 craftsmen to a rank 3 of getting a green craftsman instead.

Some use the AH as a way to pass the AD between there Alts. They just put in a cheap item and sell it at a very high price then on there other character they will go and buy that item. That is just one example.

That's used to pass AD between players - and it's a bad one, as you're taking a 10% hit.
If it's alts you can store AD on the Zen exchange.

I have a confession to make......<sob> I saw someone selling two of an item for the same price as everyone else selling one item. I bought it, and ummm..... <sob> split the item, then turned around and sold both of them to double my profits. I accept that I have become a monster. How else am I supposed to feed my kids. Aka companions.
Huh....I thought Ballsdeep was a location in Lord of the Rings.

Unfortunately you can't buy items listed by your other characters on the same account. For this to work you'd need two different Gamertags.

It's my understanding (supported by the official wiki) that this isn't possible: you can't upgrade from common to uncommon.

If you buy 2 of an item, how do you split them to sell them separately? Have been wondering how to do this.

When you move your cursor to the item in your inventory, there should be an option at the bottom of the screen next to "Move (X)" that says "Split (Y)". Just press the Y button and you should be prompted to split the stack.

You can't upgrade from common to uncommon on purpose, but people on the PC version have reported getting an uncommon when upgrading 4 rank 2s to a rank 3, which we presume is a result of some RNG bonus.

The same goes with the uncommon shields and swords in Leadership. People have reported getting upgraded reward items and more money by using these. I've got a couple of green shields and in 2 years have never noticed being that lucky.

Also, while that's the "official" wiki, it's also user created content so you have to weigh what's written there with what's reported in the forums. I'm not saying that the wiki is wrong on the professions, just that people have reported otherwise.

    1. Highlight the stack in your inventory.
    2. Look at the options shown.
    3. I think the Y button is "split".
    4. ???
    5. Profit!

And you would be wrong. Although you cannot do it as a scheduled task, the game has a built in very very very rare chance that upgrading 4 rank 2 crafters is able to produce a green one. It has happened to me twice on PC, so I speak from personal experience, not rumor.

Am I wasting my time leveling Jewelcrafting?

Like is it gonna cost stupid amts of AD to get the purple assets? If they're even available? I'm on 15 now, and I just want those personalized hero rings so franking bad.

Yes, they will be expensive. But, Crucibles can be used in 3 of the slots for any jewelry craft. Those can be purchased reasonably, for now.
