Briefly, the main things I believe are wrong with Neverwinter’s Mod 6 are there are no mailboxes, no armor drops, the loot really-really sucks, professions are ridiculous, and old zones are undoable solo and a group of 2 is hard pressed to live. This game is now geared for those that have uber armor, weapons and items. The casual player can no longer really enjoy the harder zones and epic Bosses, where the good armor is, are out of the question (Catch 22).
Cures
1) There should be at least 1 mailbox in every main camp of every zone, period.
2) Gear in level 70 zones:
All drops should be level 70 and be no less than 54% green, 45% blue or 1% purple gear.
3) Loot in level 70 zones is still at level 50. There is no reward for the harder zones. Kits need a major upgrade. Failure rates on Kits needs to be lowered to 5% from 25%. However, keys (i.e., Thief, Nature, etc.) should cost and should never drop. They should be made by the player. (Level 60 chests and below should remain the same). Coin drops should be no less and 25 Silver and no more than 5 Gold (Copper should no longer exists at this level)
4) Professions at level 21 and up:
A. There should be no tier crafting. The player can now make the item directly without making numerous lesser parts of the same item (e.g., no need to make level 1 pants to make level 3 pants, etc.)
B. There should be a way for players to make superior tools (Tool Profession?)
C. No item should take more than 24 hours to craft.
5) Old zones raised to level 70 need to be toned down. No epic encounters in a quest. All NPCs need to be level 70, 70 elites, not 73 and 73 elites. Agro ranges need to be reduced.
Reasons for the modifications
Mod 6 has made the game no longer fun; it is now grind for loot and hope you live through the encounter, and there is no appropriate reward for completing a high level quest. The new zones are now made in such a way that you now have to constantly fight your way in and out of camps (this is fine if the loot was worth the effort). There is no easy road to travel between camps (agro seems to be really enhanced), which is fine, but not having a mailbox at the main camp sites makes players continue to travel to Protector’s Enclave to receive mail. This takes up a lot of real playing time.
In a lot of cases the new and improved zones can no longer be completed solo. There are no real gear enhancements. Even in level 70 zones the gear is worse than Tier 1 stuff. Even the gear offered after a task or Boss fight is subpar. The loot is still at level 60 (which was never really all that good to begin with) and even some items at level 50, even though the area was raised to level 70 (Well of Dragons is a prime example). I don’t mind working hard if the reward is worthy of the task, but level 70 zone rewards just plain suck. This really needs to change.
Kit contents should be greatly enhanced. All players at level 70 have opened up hundreds if not thousands of Kits and would have become really good at this task. Therefore, the rate of success needs to be raise to 95%. Also, the contents of level 70 kits need to be greatly improved (this comes under the title of drops really suck). However, make the players able to make their own keys (i.e., Thief, Nature, etc.) or purchase them from a Vendor at a sizeable sum. Again, since players have opened up so many of these it would only be natural they have become quite good at it and know what it takes to open them and be able to craft the needed items. (Key Profession?)
Since the inclusion of Artifact Gear (AG) it is now possible to upgrade it through refinement points (RPs). Level 70 gear still commands the same RP points as level 60 stuff. It takes 3.8m+ of RPs to upgrade AG from 0 to 100. Since most drops only rate 100 points, sometimes 300 and rarely greater, it takes months to enhance just one piece of armor (can you say 20k items?). This needs to change. Again, drops really suck!
Doing Professions now is ridiculous. If a Player has already reached profession level 20 it is assumed he has many minions working for him. It would be their job to make all the lower level items. Therefore, there should be no reason to create these items again. There should be a way for players to make superior tools. (Tool Profession?) All green level tools should be able to be made by Players at Professional level 20. Also, almost any item in the game should be able to be made by Players. Yes they should be hard to create, but still...
Now for comments on the old zones raised to 70. Icewind is a perfect example of being totally HAMSTER! No one does the epic encounters anymore because a party of five normal players cannot complete one due to constant deaths. Remorhaz is never done because it takes more than a complete zone to kill the worm.
The new zones were created with great imagination. However, I was expecting really good things with Mod 6, but overall it has been a great disappointment. Mod 6 in my opinion is an almost complete failure and needs a major overhaul.
My new artifact off-hand for my hunter ranger has the class feature of adding to "Battlehoned" which is awesome....except there is no Battlehoned class feature to select for the Hunter Ranger... is it possibly for the other path besides Stormwarden or is this a mistake?
Agree with the OP, and in addition, why are the Tyranny of Dragon Dungeon Quests (Barrow, etc) all level 70 when you go in? Drop the player to the tier (38 I believe for Ebon Downs, for example), or don't offer them at all - how is a new player supposed to complete them?
Might is not always right - the powerful sometimes forget that.
