Okay...I admit I'm brand new to MMOs, because one worth playing has never come to xbox before.
I'm loving Neverwinter, but have no idea how to / where to get involved in doing an epic dungeon.
Could someone please give a poor amateur some helpful tips, and/or maybe include him in one or two?
Also, I keep hearing people say that they can solo some of the regular dungeons on their own. Is there a way to do these dungeons without needing the other four people?
Thanks in advance. I just want to play and enjoy - but not annoy others with incompetence that can easily be overcome with a little knowledge.
Epic Dungeons are unlocked at Level 60. You queue up for them, the same way you do the normal versions. As you increase your gear score, more Epic Dungeons become available. T1 w ill start at 6800, while T2 can be 8300 (if I'm not mistaken). If you're not 60 yet, you won't see these in your list. When/if you are 60, Menu > Quests > Queue. You'll see a whole list of Epic (Level 60) Dungeons with a minimum required gear score.
As for soloing, I couldn't say. It's a mixture of having, potentially, BiS (best in slot) items/gear and enchantments (I would assume), along with having the optimum spec for your class.
Thanks for the reply.... yeah, I just recently hit 60 a couple days ago, but hadn't checked the queues.
As for soloing... are you saying that I can go up to any of the regular dungeons and just play them without needing the other four people? That's what I'm wondering.
I couldn't say. I believe, even when running up to the dungeon entrance, you'll still need 4 others to enter. I honestly don't know, but I do know there a good amount of YouTube videos of player soloing dungeons. You may want to look at those.
you can definitely enter from the actual location and do the dungeons solo if you wanted.

You can walk to any regular dungeon and enter solo. When you click on the entrance, it will ask if you want to que or enter wth current party. Select enter with current party and you can solo, enter with a friend or even enter witha pre-made group. I like to solo Cloak tower. Be warned, it will take much, much longer. But, you can take time and explore.
Soloing regular dungeons has it perks (gold farming) but I wouldn't waste your time if you're a rogue, GWF, or trapper. You can easily solo Epic Cloak Tower on your own.
My suggestion to you is to keep plugging away at the T1's and hopefully you can meet a few good people and join up in a guild. That will open a door of endless possibilities of getting better gear and dodge the dreadful party kick when you pug (pick up group). Best of luck, my friend.
When does the epic dungeon key come into play? I bought one and did the Cloak Tower (i think it's T1) and it just used my normal key and not my epic key. am i doing something wrong?
Right, you can make your way to the amp entrance of just about any dungeon and go in alone, but it takes a while and that varies widely depending on dungeon and your class/specs/gear score / companion. After all, they're set up for 5 players and 5 companions at some level. So having control, dps, healing (knockback, push) that's just whatever you have and whatever the usually pretty squishy companion has makes it more difficult (or depending, near impossible) I can only give one example from experiencing it that a 16K GS each GWF and GF pair with level 20 jesters can non queue finish Spellplauge normal including the beholder and boss, but it's kinda slow. What I've read, a properly specced control wizard can do it alone, probably also true for like a single 18K gwf or probably any PvP specced TR or a battle cleric etc. The only way to know though if you personally can do some dungeon or antoher is to do it.
The standard keys open chests in regular (non-gs locked) dungeons, but you can use the daily key (which is essentially an epic one) also, which if you do that a lot, you can get them for 2500 AD instead and save the epic one. There's about four or so ways to get keys (or the equivalent) for (epic) dungeons depending on how you look at it. You can buy keys for gold from players or AD from the dungeon key store. The store is 5000 AD so in gold that's perhaps 5-10 G depending on who's selling them and how many you get. (If we go by horses, 5G is around 3.5K but can vary from 2 to 6 K if you go by what "most people" buy/sell them for) I guess if there are any unbound keys that can be auctioned you can get them in the AH for whatever they sell for, I haven't looked, idk.) You can get one key a day free (or if you have one you haven't used, two that day, the one in your hand and the free one after you use that one). You can also do the delves during delve time, where the "key" is you entering that dungeon and having the chest unlock itself ahead of time.
Thanks sfal. i think i got it. So if non-delve time, i go into an epic dungeon, it will use my epic key to unlock the final chest. During delve time, i don't need one.
last question - If i start during delve time and there is only 1min remaing in delve time before it ends. Assuming i can't finish the dungeon in 1 minute, do i still need a key or no?
"Pointless" is a bit much. Maybe everything is lost on me but I personally play the game to see all the content and experience everything. Guess I am just an old school D&D nerd or an Old School MMORPG player, but regardless of what drops where and by how much, I enjoy going through the older Dungeons for the experience not the drops. The old Dungeons aren't pointless unless you have the mentality of I.Need.More.Stuff instead of I need to experience the game. If it is the about getting "stuff" as quickly as possible then I agree with your thought process but to say pointless is a bit of a stretch. Despite what some may think, there are a ton of players that play this game just to enjoy the content and have an escape to a fantasy world for just a little bit
I guess its an age thing as my son would probably agree with you about the fast track and couldn't care less about experiencing the content. Just wants the best stuff as fast as possible. LOL
If the dungeon chest is unlocked it should remain unlocked even if the delves times ends. (versus skirmish where you have to open it during time to get the bonus ad)
The tiamat raid eventually drops things, but not the same as t2, and if you want a specific type or unit (high general head say) then there's a dungeon for that. However yes, you can buy a set of armor (head, chest, arms, legs) and mainhand/offhand in the auction house for about 30K AD. WHich ad you can make in skirmishes and crafting and pvp) Or by just doing t1 and t2 dungeons.....

Dungeons are pointless in 99% cases, yours is only 1%. You like experiencing content? Like grinding the same dungeon for 100 times? No? How many is enough for you to consider something as "experienced"? People grind for loot, for progress and at this point T2 dungeons are a worthless waste of time. They made a big part of their game useless.. Cool huh? So they could sell f-king zen (people getting forced to exchange zen to ADs to get some).
Well thanks to Tiamat, all Dungeons/Epics/and CN are pretty much useless. Why spend an hour+ in a dungeon when you can just beat Tiamat in less then 20mins

You don't get Greater Marks from Tiamat. Also you get a random piece of armor and if you want what's in the chest, you have to spend a key. In a decent group you can run through a t2 in 20-40 min depending which one. You get three chances at a possible Greater Mark dropping. Now with the ability to see whats going to be in the chest, you only have to run the dungeon once. T2s are not useless. CN is a good way to get your weapon if you don't have access to the artifacts and I've seen Greater Marks from there as well. It's not worth running as much as it used to be since prices have dropped but there's also a chance for t2 armor there as well. Epics useless? You mean 5 million AD for a horn? Not useless either. Also Greater Marks drop there too. Tiamat is good but the other stuff is not useless.
Oh, ok. I guess my statement was for those who have everything they NEED and don't need to farm for petty Greater Marks or a cheap Horn. Sure, I could farm t2s for more greater marks, but it would just be to sell on ah. And since I am sitting at about 60mil ad right now, I don't really need to do too much else lol. I am fine with my new GS of just over 18k, that is good enough for me. But for all others, I guess grinding t2s might still be a viable option.
Edit: Before anyone says that I must have bought everything. To this date, 07/30/2015, I have only spent $60 on the game.
That's cool you have that much AD. I have plenty as well. My point is that it's not pointless like you stated. 95% of the player base is not at that point. Anyone with some luck, smarts and 1,000 + hours in game can be maxed out with the double refinements they gave so far in game. When you have a maxed out character, it's either start a new one or play something else until a new mod comes out. All dungeons are still viable in the game. I still run them to help out my guild mates that aren't as fortunate. Shores is pretty useless to me but to someone else it's worth running.
Holy AD Pat! Guess everything in this game would be pointless for you;) I still like smashing hoards of critters, it matters not where. I just love watching their health bars drain and exacting revenge upon them for when I was weaker and slogged my way through them. Each to their own.
Oh, don't get me wrong, I still run dungeons with my guildies when they need help. AND I do have 3 other toons that don't have EVERYTHING that my main does. But I no longer grind by any means. I pretty much just get on for professions and to run a couple dungeons if my guild is on.
