Non-refunded posting fee!

  The posting fee gets refunded when an item SELLS. If you got it back when an item is not sold, what would be the point of the fee?

  The point buddy is no other mmo has a "posting" fee which is non refunded and a AH cut fee that is also not refunded. All other mmorpgs charge you the AH cut fee when you post an item but it's refunded IF your item doesn't sell.

  Games like WOW charge an AH fee when your item doesn't sell.

  No they do not. You recieve your item and your gold in the mail when the item doesn't sell.

  The point of a posting fee is to keep ludicrous pricing in check. You get a one of a kind item or first of it's kind on the server and feel it should be worth millions because it's unique? Better hope someone else does too otherwise you're gunna eat that posting fee. Now the AH cut is a bit much IMO. It'd be one thing if the AH took a cut but you could still sell your stuff for AD via trading with other players. That makes sense in that scenario, a fee for convenience. But to charge a fee for selling an item when there is no other means with which to sell them and still receive the currency you want? Just dumb. Although... there are times when I find the AH cut amusing... undercut an items lowest buyout by 9%, item sells likely from someone trying to make some quick money by flipping... then they realize they just lost AD... it makes me warm and fuzzy inside.

  Yes, they do. I've played more MMOs than I care to admit and the number of games that don't utilize posting fees or AH cuts is approximately equal to those that have no AH at all.
  
  The point, as someone else stated, is to keep ludicrous pricing in check. If your item has a chance of not selling because you jack the price up, you'll think twice about starting the bid and buyout at 10,000,000 AD once you see the posting fee. Additionally, the longevity of the economy and the game itself relies heavily (as most MMOs do) on creating sinks for players to spend their currency without receiving it in another form. Some people can play games and stockpile all of their currency, which floods the economy when they finally spend it and causes problems.
  
  If there's not an equality and balance between the amount of currency coming into the economy and the amount going out, the market will either see extreme inflation or extreme deflation based on the source of imbalance.

  It makes sense to me, as others said its to keep inflated prices and auction flipping in check. And yes WoW does charge a fee to post an item in the AH It's referred to as a deposit.
