Empowered

Hey guys,

I'm very new to NW. I've been playing for about 2 weeks, I'm level 20. I have a few quick questions I can't seem to find from a basic search:

1 - What is empowered?

2 - Are their any good guides for basic gameplay, like skills, feats, companions and profs? I see all these max out guides and end game stuff, but nothing that explains anything other than - "do this, not that" type stuff.

Any help would be appreciated.

Empowered is gained when you use encounter abilities in divinity mode, you can have up to 3 stacks of empowered at a time and are show as small blue orbs circling around your character. After you have empowered stacks you have to use the non-divinity version of a spell which will use up however many stacks of empowered you have to give an extra effect on whatever spell you use.

As far as a guide, I have no idea. Sorry.

This is a great DC guide and may be the definitive one for Neverwinter.

Lots of great info in there. Read it, learn it, play it ;)

At level 20 you've probably only just discovered Divine mode. When you do your normal casting (left trigger and right trigger - called 'at-wills') you'll notice that the yellow bar near your char fills up and then a '+' mark appears. This is your divinity. When the bar fills up to give you a '+', the bar then resets to empty and starts filling up again. You can accumulate a total of three '+' marks. At this point you are maxed out. You can keep casting your at-wills, but you won't get any more bars filling or '+' marks.

At any point you can switch to Divine mode by clicking on the Right Trigger Button (RB). Any divinity you have accumulated in the bar and the '+'s you can now spend in divine mode.

You can do two things in divine mode.
    1) Cast encounter spells
    2) 'channel' divinity.

In order to do 1) you need at least 1 '+'. Every time you cast an encounter power in divine mode you use up a '+'. Divine mode encounters do different things than normal mode. Read the tooltip in the powers window. They also cast instantly and have no cooldown. Very cool.
Every time you do one of these you acquire an empowered token. These tokens appear as blue circles surrounding your char.

In order to do 2) use your left or right trigger. Left slowly heals you. Right slowly deals damage. Its like a drain effect. You use up a bit of the blue bar and in return either heal a bit, or damage a bit.

Once you've used up all your blue divinity, you'll pop automatically back into normal mode. If you've cast of any encounters in divine mode and got any of the blue circles you can now use them up by casting an 'Empowered' encounter. These are more powerful versions of the normal mode ones (again - read the tooltip on the power window for more info). Generally they will do more damage, more damage resistance, have a wider effect, last for longer, etc.

You don't have to have all 3 blue balls to cast one. But the more you have, the more powerful the 'Empowered' is.

You then probably have to start casting your at-wills again. Rinse and Repeat.

    EDIT:
You can read all the guides in the world, but there is no supplement for trying stuff out for yourself. I read the kealec guide when I was about lvl 5 and it didn't make a lot of sense to be honest. Only when you really start playing a lot and get used to solo play and dungeon play does it really start to make sense. My advice would be to take the time to practice all your powers. Get used to what they do and how you can use them. Also highly recommend getting a couple of companions. The man-at-arms can start to get you used to playing with a tank. Get a DPS too to practice dealing with getting aggro yourself. I used the free one you get for linking your arc account.
