Seems like the gateway for sword coast adventures via your companion has been offline for 2+ days. Will they ever fix it.

I've been playing a lot over the last couple of days when I saw that you can get nice companion equipment from the epic quest. So it definitely is working.

Maybe you should try a different browser or other typical web troubleshooting.

    Secure Connection Failed

The connection to gateway.playneverwinter.com was interrupted while the page was loading.

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.

...and while you're at it Java and Flash, too.

If you're using a new-ish version of FF, downgrading it's SSL acceptance might work. Look you here for the How-to.

The most up-to-date version of Firefox recognizes the security concerns in the older protocol that the Gateway uses, and blocks it. It gives the "interrupted" error when this happens.

The workaround above will work, but it allows all internet sites to use the less-secure protocol. A better workaround is this one where you allow this only for listed sites: http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?852761-Connecting-to-Neverwinter-Gateway-on-Firefox-on-PC-Use-version-36&p=10438531&viewfull=1#post10438531

Thanks! I missed out on that. It's a safer way to achieve the same goal...
