Ok to skip zones?

I am lvl 37 and haven't even been to Helms Hold yet. Is it ok to skip and proceed to the next zone? (Ebon Downs). Dont want to miss anything super important or anything. If it matters this is for the Xbone

    You will not miss anything...
    nothing really is important unless you're into the lore?
