I keep seeing people saying a Paladin is no good for DPS and his at-will's are underpowered. Now I'm just a casual player, at level 20, my armor and weapons are just what I find in drops, I try to go for defense and power with a little regen tossed in, but that's it, my regen hasnt reached 200 yet I am getting over 160 health per tick, which I haven't seen on any of my other toons, I am going thru the general mobs in the world like they aren't there, where my other toons struggle with some of them. I was thinking to myself "Man, are they gonna nerf this class quick" he seems overpowerd to me, I dont even need a devoted cleric with me in the solo instances. Then I see what others are saying and I think I"M CONFUSED, If others are basing their opinions on PVP then I don't know. I don't do PVP, I suck at PVP, the only thing I excel at in PVP is "person who dies the fastest". As I stated earlier, I am a casual player, so I'm confused as to why the pally seems so powerful to me when others say he's weak. Can someone enlighten me?
The Paladin is pretty nasty early on, however, somewhere in the level 50-55 mark he starts to slow down, with it becoming even more noticeable once you move into level 60+ territory.
i used smite, templars wrath and burning light, running solo dungeons, below some lvl 65 i didnt even stop to fight mobs, casted all skills on cooldown and ran

Paladin is strong early on but gets weaker and weaker dps wise from like lvl 50 and on compared to other classes. That's probably because at lvl 55 players obtain their capstone feats that make a huge difference. Whereas Paladin's dps spec capstone feat is not working at all for protection paragon and only half working for devotion paragon. There are some bugs along the way too as well as missing features such as Aura of Haste.
Paladin's easy access to Temp Hps and Self Healing Ability.. you can kill pretty non-shop. In most cases.. I don't need to use a Healer Companion.. which allows me to use my Augment.. which equals the ability to keep a bit more offensive stats.
I would say Devotion - Justice is best leveling Spec.. then just go the more specialized role once you hit 70.
I pretty much favored Arm Pen / Hps on gear.. @ level 68 now.. my Aura of Courage (3 points) adds about 1.7k per hit @ 83k hps.
I figure I'll have about 100k hps @ 70... that's before I can get T1 level 70 sets.

I strongly disagree with this. I took my paladin from 55-61 last night, and didn't have to slow down at all. Wearing nothin but HAMSTER <60 greens and the free gear for hitting 60, I was able to take multiple level 71-73 mobs no problem while getting my campaign quests started.
The paladin class is very, very strong. Templar's Wrath, Relentless Assault and Smite/sacred weapon are the encounters i bring, echoes of light + aura of wisdom + flash of light lets me spam 'em like crazy and things just die.
Things may change drastically with tomorrow's patch, but as of 4/22/2015, oathbound paladins are incredibly powerful and kill very quickly.

Is paladin the only class you play? Trust me when I say this, paladin takes the longest to kill stuff with than anything I have. He shrugs off everything mobs toss at me, yeah, but it takes forever to kill some things. And hell, you're not even using the best dps rotation paladin has. For single target: courage, wrath auras, circle of power, vow of enmity, smite/burning light. For aoes: same auras, circle of power, burning light, templar's wrath. Now you'll be doing dee pee es. But still lower than any other class, ofc.
Unless you consider spamming divine judgement with a friend DC abusing AP bug as valid way of dealing dps with a paladin...

This.
I dinged 70 with my Paladin two days ago. Switched from my once dearly beloved SW (lv68) bc every f*cking group of npcs was a total drag. Combine that with the ridiculously annoying 16-repeatable-Quest Grind and you get the feeling of utter joy and happiness:P
Paladin on the other hand feels almost invincible all the way to lv70.
I was full Bulwark specc for leveling (which was a little mistake, thank you Captain Hindsight) and never had any problems at all, except maybe that it took a while longer to kill some of the bigger npcs later on (60+).
Yesterday I went full Justice specc and I can't even tell how much I love it. I'm doing all of the Campaign Stuff like GS/DF/DS etc. solo, even some of the WoD stuff (Cult Prison is possible but takes many tries) and my Itemlevel is pretty low with something around 1,2k. You pretty much just blaze through everything, while being rather tanky as well (although ofc not as much as Devotion).
I'm a bit excited about the patch tomorrow, I really hope they don't mess things up again ..
Ok. I guess I'm still in the powerful stage being lvl20. I will have to wait and see how my Pally feels when I get higher. I'm sure which feats are selected has some bearing on how he performs too. I'm not an expert and just pick what sounds like it may be useful. So far i have
Divine action 3/5
Toughness 2/3
Lights Shield 3/5
Exemplar's Haste 2/3
Wrathful Strikes 3/3
Impassioned Plea 1/3
With those I am getting 10% bonus damage with a power of 346, 15.8% Dam Res at 457 Defense and a total Dam Res of 27.3% . I don't know if these are good or bad, just stating them to show where I am in the leveling process.
As for the Patch, I'm expecting to get Smote upon, classes are always the most powerful when they first come out, then get nerfed all to hell. Never could understand the reasoning behind that.

for the hype. makes people goo "oooh, new class is OP, better make one, buy a char slot / bags / leveling pack / gear"
I was wearing lvl 25 mace until ~lvl 50 because the paladin is way too strong and it got boring. After lvl 50 and especially the new lvl60-70 zones, you want maximum performance again. And I'm not even talking about Icewind Dale with its lvl 73 enemies.
So up to lvl 50 have fun with an overpowered class or downgrade equipment for a bit of challenge, high level content you want hp,hp and even more hp for your oath 10% power and aura of courage if you don't want to be busy with a group of polar bears in icewind dale for 2-3 minutes.
Paladins are awesome sponges late game. I've walked into areas that were 6-8lvls higher than me and they couldn't kill me. I couldn't do a lick of dmg, but still...
If you want a good companion Find one you Advantage combat, the best is Black Scorpion and The dragon increases your damage struggle. It's like having your own hr with aspect of the pack XD
