So I just hit level 40 as a paladin and ive gone down the light paragon path and am wondering if skills like Aura of Gifts work on myself
Im not sure if i count as an ally to myself or if it has to be another person, the way some of the skills are worded makes it confusing

Some skills, like Aura of Courge for example, say "You and allies within 30 feet of you..." which seems to mean you dont count as an ally for skills that refer to allies since it specifically refers to you and allies

But other skills, like Aura of Divinity for example, say "Up to 3 wounded allies within 30 feet of you..." yet it works on yourself as if you count as an ally and it doesnt mention working on you specifically

So do skills like Aura of Gifts and Share the Light work on yourself or do they only work on others, do i count as an ally to myself for the purpose of skills that refer to "allies"?

Typically you don't count as an Ally. Your companion does, however. There may be exceptions because many tooltips are misleading or just plain wrong.
    Jenna Sunsoul - Justice Tankadin
    Aelar Hawkwind - Archer
Karrin Feywinter - Mistress of Flame
    Errin Duskwalker - Executioner
    Darquess - Soulbinder

    ^This.

You are you and an ally is any other player or NPC that is not 'hostile' to you. But there are a couple things to keep in mind with all this:

If something affects you AND an ally: it will usually say "You and Ally..."
If something affects only allies it will usually just say "Allies..." (and will not affect you directly)
If something affects only Party members it will usually state "Party..." Does not affect just anyone standing around)
Allies include companions. However, many affects on allies have a count limit, so when there are too many 'allies' around the affect will work on other players before it works on companions; it will work on your companion first, other companions last (or not at all).

Allies come in two flavors: 1) Party members (of the party you are part of) and 2) any other 'friendly' player.
    1) requires that you are part of a Party of the affect only affects you and companion (if allowed). 2) is great as it affects ALL other players in-range; great for Heroic Encounters, Dragon Fights, etc. Just something to keep in mind.

This is what I can figure out (I don't know for sure, but by observation) is: Most feats and encounter powers of any class that "affects allies" will affect all non-hostile other players/your companion. The only things that affect only other Party members seem to be artifacts that offer buff/debuff options to other players; usually only other members of the same party you are in. For example: a Dev mentioned the Wheel of Elements artifact works for you and other Party Members only, not just anyone willy-nilly. Which I feel is unfortunate.

And again I reiterate that I don't *know* this stuff, it is only what I have loosely observed over time; I could be wrong about any or even all of it. LOL

Well i tested it by putting a point into aura of gifts to see if it would work on me as well and it doesn't
I hope they change the tooltips to make it more clear
