I am taking a break from my warlock and deciding to make a pvp centered wizard. I like the tanky ones with shield on tab but I'm not sure which feat path to go with since I'm quite new to the class. I'm not sure what power load outs will be the best aswell. I'm looking for a build that does not go down as fast as a sack of potatoes but can still offer control and deal decent damage to the enemy. It's looking like spellstorm is the way to go. Just in general any tips for PvP wizards? Any feedback is appreciated, thanks.
I am in the same boat with you. Went from SW to an old TR, then an old HR and decided finally to level and stick with CW (all pvp) over the x2 xp weekend.
So, a solid damage dealing pve build, tweaked for pvp. By tweaked I mean making sure con is the highest stat after int and cha. Likewise, boons and gear choices reflecting hit points as a defensive stat priority.
My cw is currently only level 45, so taking that into consideration my loadouts are as follows:
Shield on tab>entangling force on q (as opener), icey rays on e, and repel (push) on r. I open with entangling, while the target is dangling I hit it (and another nearby target if possible) with icey rays for added chill and a brief cc on his team mate, and then hit it with a steady ray of frost so that when entangle comes off, the target is locked in place. I hammer it with magic missiles while locked and when the lock breaks, I finish with repel. For me this rotation usually kills the target and if it does not, repel will force it away.
I pick my encounters based on control, casting time, and cool down: those which I can cast the fastest, gives me the most crowd control with the shortest cooldown, make it onto my hotbar.
The synergy of the build revolves around crit, so I stack this with g.vorp (or the best vorp you can get). So I stack power>crit>arpen and for defense almost exclusively hp.
This will all change with mod 6 probably and I am by no means an expert. It is just what I do. Critical analysis from expert players is welcome
i have 20k bis cw. pvp build.
renegade
tabd shield, repel, entangle, enfeeble
black ice split set or purified.
37k hp
make sure u build full pvp spec (single target boons etc because pve is cake. pets are waste of money
Thanks a lot for the feedback, so is renegade the way to go? I like the most survivable paths but I like controlling too so I'm stuck between renegade and opressor
Renegade is the way to go atm due to lifesteal. With high lifesteal more damage output = more incoming healing. That makes you very tanky in both pve and pvp. Mod 6 lifesteal will change drastically, so the word is oppressor will be the way to go because incoming health from damage/lifesteal will not be able to keep up with outgoing health from taking damage.
If you haven't rolled your cw yet, you might just be better off rolling an oppressor. That so you get used to survival via cc rather than getting used to survival via lifesteal now, and then having to relearn everything when mod6 drops (a few weeks).

There's way too much CC immunity in PvP to make an Oppressor build viable.
I don't know if the Lifesteal "nerf" will be as bad in PvP as in PvE. I can see how it will be negative for AoE skills, but I think it could actually be better for single target spells. It is going to synergize with Regeneration a lot more then it currently does.
I still don't think that Oppressor will be able to deal enough damage in PvP to be a relevant build and PvP Tenacity/CC Immunity comes into play here too.
Some of the PvP HRs and TRs i play with are particular excited about Life Steal in Mod6.
Of course, until the mod actually drops on live, hard to tell.

Forget about CON in Mod 6. The CON bonus works only on base HP. However, Lvl 70 gear has like 40k or more HP as boon, for which CON does nothing at all. It'll be like 100k HP with standard, rather meh CON, and 105 HP with max CON and belt. So what you achieve with maxing CON is a drop in the ocean...
Not saying it's completely useless, but WIS for +CC / CC resist might be a more attractive option for PvP...

My experience, from what I have read, heard, and fought against in pvp is this- you want to go spellstorm renegade. As per: http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?819531-Spellstorm-Renegade-Guide-Death-is-the-Best-Crowd-Control

Mod 6 is coming though, and apparently the cw paradigm is going to change. For that, check this thread: http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?860371-A-Module-6-Survival-Guide-for-Control-Wizards

Thanks for chiming in!
master of lame is never an option
Master of Flame is great. But probably not for high-end PVP. MoF works best by debuffing the enemy and applying DoTs.
I will say that Scorching Burst is good for applying a Smolder DoT to rogues as they attempt to re-enter stealth.

in high level PVP CWS are mostly at mid burning DCS, GWFS etc... on occasion you go to end caps where the TRS and HRS live...

I race rerolled to Sun Elf for the +2 CHA race feat, and I'm doing way more damage now, and I'm also getting more AP, as I have more Critical Chance.
I fathom that Thaum is the way to go due to Spell Twisting.
