The Well of Dragon zone is now a level 73 zone, and they only "level" you up to level 70 in there. So mobs hit for a lot more damage than before. To do it like before we are going to have to get new armor etc.
That is an end-game area, and since Elemental Evil raised the level cap to 70 you aren't ready for the end-game content anymore. Play the mod 6 missions which are designed to get you from 60-70 and then you'll be ready to go back. I got 1-shotted by a Redcap so I feel your pain.
70 is the new 60. All end-game campaigns, Sharandar/DR/IWD/WoD, are now level 70. Although your character will get "scaled" to 70 when you enter these area, the scaling is not done well. Lot of people been getting their a$$s handed to them now, even those who were near 20K GS. It will be very difficult until you get closer to 70. You should do the new Elemental Evil stuff to level up before returning to the end-game stuff.
Just a comment from someone who played the preview server, leveled a toon to 70, got the best PVP set with full rank10 and pure terror enchantment. When u go to those zones without a healer u die exactly the same as if u was just lvl60, thats the reason because the whole preview section its still filled with complains since long before this mod reach live server. The devs are aiming for party play instead of solo play, so they took the job to make the end game for party play only, if u go alone u will just keep dying it doenst matter ur gear or if u are lvl60 or 70

LOL@"Lot of people". The zone has almost 0 activity. Tiamat donation is at 0%. Yes, a big fat ZERO PERCENTAGE. If you are lucky, you get one dragon herald kill in the most populated instance and get a super duper potion of dragon slayer for your many deaths, but more often your group just failed and you got nothing. The daily mini dungeons are not only hard to solo but serve almost no purpose. Even the diehard players who yelled "donate" every hour are now yelling "crab up" in the new Drowned zone.

People are griding to level 70 right now, give them a week and all those things will start again.
If the leveling quests were abit more "entertaining"...the time you will have to wait would be shorter....

Highly doubtful. They still need to be pretty well geared to survive. It is more than just the level. The trash are getting pretty hard for the former 10k gs players. Don't tell me all the 10k gs players will magically spend a lot of money to buy AD to do the same things they used to do but with almost no reward.
Well if people need to gear up to do some HE's, that's wonderful...abit of progression added to the game, even if it's shortlived.
The point is the rewards from these HE are far from worthy to gear up for and not only that, even the trash mobs outside the HE needed to be geared up for. See? Before artificial gear, people kept saying "so what it takes thousand of dollars to gear up if you don't need to gear up" but the truth was they required 20k gs initially for Tiamat and you know how it went. Now, the tune changed and they said "you need to gear up to do the same thing that give you almost nothing" and hope people will think it is "wonderful" to gear up to do the same things for the same "rewards"?
Thanks all for your comments and help. I was looking for more information on the elemental evil and where to start but I have found nothing.
I guess you just follow the quest line starting from Sergeant Knox. You should be level 70 before you are done with all the millions of Vigilant Tasks and the full quest line. Then you talk to Lord Neverember to claim your level 70 artifact weapon and offhand. That should be the start. But I don't know how you survive all the level 70+ zones without any serious RP put into you artifact gear and artifacts. Perhaps you can try LFG for even daily quests or HEs, and you can grind glory for the level 70 PvP set.

I was doing fine at 60. :shrugs: I'd prepped in armour and upgraded enchants. Also, I have awesome guildies to help. Use heal potions liberally. That's what you need gold for - buying more heal potions and injury kits.
Quests for Elemental Evil start at Archdruid under the big tree, beside Minsc.

This is typical PWE/Cryptic. Raise level cap but don't add a new zone for it. So things you could do before you can't. I just came back to checkout the game again also. Level 71 mobs in what was a level 60 zone. Yeah its a no wonder that the place is empty now. totally lazy work on the Dev's side. That did the same thing in STO.
I was thinking that they could have left Sharandar and Dread Ring 60+, done Icewind 65+ and WoD, etc 70+.
I'm a casual player w/ T1 gear, GS12K, and mostly L5-6 enchants in my gear. The game has become impossible for me in the zones I was currently working (Sharandar, and with difficulty, WoD) At least the ToD dailies in the earlier areas are scaled that I can survive a bit. Looks like it's either farm or drop wads of catch to get the game back to enjoyable..
Oh, BTW, drinking the red koolaid faster than I can buy them.
