When I created the character yesterday I chose Myth Drannor with Descendants of the Coronals as my background. However when looking at the history in my character sheet. It now has me listed as The Dalelands with Battle Tested Veteran as my backgound, yet of Myth Drannor is still my available title selection?
Everyone has been effected by this bug I believe. I have inspected the history of several players and each and every one of them had the same background of being from The Dalelands as a battle tested veteran, including myself. Also, the custom entered text history was erased inexplicably on my character after I typed it in the next time I logged in.
Also, since I for some reason cannot post new threads, I'll list some minor bugs I've found here.
-If too many bags are bought from the Zen shop, the bags left over cannot be sold or discarded, meaning they are permanently stuck in inventory.
-During the wizard class quest that involves falling to the depths of fallen tower tavern, the quest-giver refers to the archmage as a "gost" rather than a "ghost" in the dialogue box.
These are just two minor issues I've found, most of my other concerns have already been shared by others.
Same thing here. It is pretty frustrating. I just want my background to reflect what I chose. Doesn't make much sense to have a Drow or Half-Orc as a war hero from the Dalelands.
I came on this forum for the same problem. I refuse playing this game if it is not fixed ASAP. I've been having so much trouble since the launch of the game. I don't even want to ask my friend to join, they will quit even before starting playing the actual game. Linking account is so glitchy. Yes, it is a free game, but I got tons of free game and tons of none-free game already and they are much more enjoyable because they are working perfectly. These seems like bugs coming from a game that has never been tested for real. This is the first time I am trying a D&D game... If you at least tell me that when it will be fixed, it will change my background history to what I chose, then I'll start playing right away, if not, too bad.
Subject: Character Backstory defaults to Dalelands Battle-Tested Veteran
Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a new character of any class.
2. Choose any backstory and complete character creation.
3. Enter game and press start, then choose Character Sheet.
4. RT or LT over to History Tab.
5. No matter what backstory you choose, it will be changed to The Dalelands, Battle-Tested Veteran. Will NOT show the backstory actually chosen.
Bug: Does not show selected backstory, shows The Dalelands Battle-Tested Veteran instead.
Note: Can still choose a title related to the backstory you chose, but backstory shows incorrectly. ALWAYS shows as The Dalelands Battle-Tested Veteran on your own character sheet and also when looking at someone else's character sheets.

Exactly full on correct, same as me on all 5 characters.
Exact same problem as OP and others made 2 characters both have The Dalelands as there background even tho I choose something different anyways its not a big deal but annoying.

Just this morning, I created two brand new characters with both of them hailing from Gray Vale, both as Savage Youth. After adventuring for a while, I decided to check out their character sheets to possibly change titles / add their biographies / etc. Unfortunately, both characters' backgrounds were not what I had originally selected. It currently states that they both are from The Dalelands and are Battle-Tested Veterans. For me, a large part of the Dungeons and Dragons experience was the ability to create unique characters with their own personal backstories. This bug eliminates character depth to an extent and completely destroys this aspect of DnD. I hope this bug has a simple fix to restore the character history to what was chosen. I'd rather not reroll a high-leveled character if this bug cannot be fixed correctly. Until then, I will not be playing Neverwinter on the Xbox One.
While annoying, hardly a game breaker, game is less than a week old.
IMO, timeouts and framerate issues should be priority one as they have a direct impact on game play whereas character bio is something that has to be actively searched for and literally has nothing to do with actual game play.
Some people (ie...myself) grew up on D&D for the Roleplay value and Character immersion... So this is a game breaker if it cant be fixed without having start the character over...
I have 2 characters that I stopped playing at level 10 so I wouldnt have that much of a "start over" ... If it is fixable without restart I will continue.
Personally, I haven't experienced ANY issues with timeouts or frame rates so I cannot speak about that. I use Comcast High-Speed Internet running at over 125mb/s hardwired to my Xbox One (not sure if that information helps/makes a difference or not).
I do agree that there are other game-breaking bugs that should take priority, don't get me wrong.
This thread is about the missing "R" in "RPG". At the moment, most of our "Roles" have been taken from us. Only to be replaced by the same background/history as everyone else. We all come from The Dalelands, as Battle-Tested Veterans! While it may not be a game-breaker to some, other players do like to immerse themselves by creating an identity for their characters. It helps to break the generic cookie-cutter mold of your standard protagonist. In my opinion, the uniquity of your character, backstory, and personality only added to the appeal of Dungeons and Dragons.
yea my friends and i have experienced this too. we all came here to role play our pen and paper DnD characters and this bug with the backstory has thrown us off. we enjoy the game but would love to have this fixed and are now worried that when it does get fixed we will have to restart our characters to get it right and are now skeptical about playing more
Wow, this thread was started back in beta and the issue still hasn't been addressed. I would imagine it to be a simple fix in a patch, an official response or at least an acknowledgment of the problem would be appreciated.

Same for me. This has to be fixed ASAP.
